The assignments with the book, Matilda, have been posted on Google Classroom (there are four weeks worth). I have posted many websites on Class Dojo and on my blog for reading, math and science websites that students can explore. I have asked students to take home their Learn, Practice and Succeed Math books and continue to review what they have learned so far (so that they do not forget anything throughout this month). Students have also been asked to read for 20 minutes everyday while continuing to get their reading logs signed. Students do not have a reading log for April, so I ask that parents just sign a piece of paper with the title of what their child read, how long they read and the date. I will continue to search for and post resources on Class Dojo and my blog everyday so please remember to check this daily. Thank you!
Please come pick up the book, Matilda, today. There will be a table set up outside of Nowlin with the Matilda book and a notebook. Please take one of each. Your child’s grades will suffer if he or she does not have the book.
I have compiled resources in three different areas and here they are:
Health/PE
-Prepare a healthy meal
-Try a new vegetable and write a good critic review of it
-Do stretches
-Play Simon Says with exercises
-Practice yoga poses
-Eat healthy snacks/eat the rainbow
Social/Emotional
-Write and draw your feelings about being home, being away from friends and missing school and your routine
-Call a grandparent and ask about their day
-Create an Acts of Kindness list for your home
-Practice breathing exercises when feeling anxious
Arts
-Create a self portrait with any materials you have
-Draw a mural with chalk
-Use recycled materials to create a sculpture
-Make up a song
-Make up a dance
-Star in your own play
-Act our a story you know
There are about eight students who did not pick up the Matilda book and notebook that I have for them. With so much homework being based on reading the book and completing the questions I have posted in Google Classroom, I am giving families another opportunity to pick up the book for your child tomorrow morning 10:00 am. There will also be a quiz on the book when we return to school in April. Students and family members are not allowed access into the building, so I will have everything set up outside the building in the front where students line up for school every morning. Please take the book and one notebook for your child. Thank you
Good afternoon, I hope everyone is safe and healthy. I have found a wonderful resource for your children to explore over these next few weeks. Students read and use Scholastic magazines in the classroom every week so they are accustomed to it and the content it shares.
Please go to www.scholastic.com/learnathome for 20 days of FREE articles and activities for your child to explore at home. Thank you!
Ms. Alward is our Media teacher and she has shared her blog that has resources on it as well;
Hello again families, as we prepare for this long block of time with your children not attending school, I would like to just give some helpful reminders. With so much time off, it can be tempting to view this month as a “vacation”. However, it is very dangerous to go along with that type of thinking. The intention of this time away from school is to keep every safe while remaining AWAY from other people. I urge you to reconsider taking your children to places such as, Midway, McDonalds play places, bounce houses and any other public space that may be fun, but also breeding grounds for bacteria, disease and virus.
Thank you for reading this and I hope everyone takes the necessary precautions to keep their children and themselves safe and healthy over this next month.
The classroom that the assignments will be on in our Google Classroom are under the class named, “Ms. Faletti Word Work”
Some online learning resources you can utilize are; ABCMouse, Adventure Academy, BrainPop, CK-12 Foundation (great science resource), Gamilab, Mystery Science and Zearn.
