    – “Ulfers Office Hours (meet one-on-one)”.

6. To join the Class Hangout, scroll to the link that says your hour and underneath it click the blue “b” titled Hangout BBB.

7. After you click it, you will see a button that says “Join Session”. If I am already in the video chat, you will be able to click “Join Session” and join the chat!

Once again, these Hangouts are not required, but I would love to hear or see from you!

Hopefully see you soon!

Housekeeping #2: Track Team!

Just because we are going through this tough time and are stuck at home, doesn’t mean that we can keep up with our fitness!

So, Mr. Wellman created a Track Google Classroom page for you all. On this page you will find a 6 week @home workout schedule. Many of these workouts you would have seen throughout the track season at some point.
This page will allow you to communicate directly with Coach Wellman as you go through the workout. Share your successes, your struggles, ask questions and motivate each other to keep up with it!
If you go out for a run or walk please notify and get permission from parents. OR TAKE THEM WITH YOU!!

Coach Wellman will be monitoring and adding in his own motivation. IF anyone abuses this or posts unwanted comments, you will be immediately removed from the group and Admin and Parents will be notified.

We are all on the same team and in this together. Let’s help push each other to be our best and help each other through it!

If you have any questions please email coach Wellman at wellmaa@dearbornschools.org

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!    JOIN NOW! Google Class code:   vyqutz4  (you must use your school email to join, if not you will be removed).

Office Hours This Week:

If you want a one-on-one video chat or phone call, I have my Office Hours this week Tuesday and Thursday, 2-3:30 pm, or by appointment.

This Week’s Assignment:

Ancient Rome lasted for over 1000 years. Within that time frame, there were hundreds of wars and violent conflicts (both conflicts between other kingdoms and Romans fighting each other). Roman leaders executed thousands of people, and many leaders were themselves assassinated.

Roman technology and culture (much of which was borrowed from other civilizations) spread to Europe, Asia, northern Africa and the Middle East.

Have you ever heard of:

  • Julius Caesar?
  • Constantine the Great?
  • Cleopatra?
  • Spartacus?
  • Jesus Christ?
  • Marc Antony?
  • Augustus Octavian Caesar?

These people were either Romans or clashed with Romans, and they remain celebrities today.

Unfortunately, there is no way for us to cover all 1,229 years of Rome’s existence, nor will we be able to cover a fraction of the historical and political conflicts that were seen over those years. We won’t even be able to talk specifically about Julius Caesar!

If along the way you come across something that makes you curious, by all means, look it up! Then email me to tell me about it because I love to learn new things about the ancient world.

This week’s assignment has two parts: a timeline and a video.

Remember, since we don’t have school on Friday, this assignment is due THURSDAY AT MIDNIGHT!

Have a great week, team!

Office Hours: TODAY and TOMORROW 2-3:30!

From 2pm to 3:30pm today and Friday I will be at my computer responding to your emails!

If you or your parent would like to talk to me on the phone call, email me and include your phone number. If you would like to video chat, email me and we will set up a time!

Keep in mind, I am usually by my computer, and I respond quickly to emails throughout the week. So if you email me outside of Office Hours, you will still hear back from me within an hour to two.

Joke of the Day:

What do you call a bee that can’t make up her mind?

A maybee!

Looking forward to seeing some of you soon! 😊💛

Monday, May 11th!

Joke of the Day:

What stays in the corner and travels all over the world?

A stamp!

Here is the weekly assignment calendar!

Office Hours and Class Video Hangouts

Class Video Hangouts are back!! We had a few weeks off but we are starting class video hangouts again this week!

First, I wanted to clarify the difference between my Office Hours and a Class Hangout.

Office Hours: A time you can reach out to me for a one-on-one conversation or help. We can email, call, or video chat during those times… just email me and we will set it up!

Class Hangout: A time when many of us will be on a video chat and we go over an assignment, check in with each other, and just talk for a bit.

As of now, Office Hours and Class Hangouts are NOT required. It’s just an opportunity to get some guidance and check in with each other!

Office Hours Schedule:

  • Tuesday: 2-3:30 pm
  • Wednesday: 10-11 am
  • Thursday & Friday: 2-3:30 pm

Class Hangout Schedule:

We will all be meeting at the same time this week. This is to help gauge how many of you are interested in joining. If there are a lot of you, we will go back to meeting by class next week!

Our Class Hangout is this Tuesday (tomorrow) at 1:30-2pm.

We are using iLearn and the Big Blue Button (BBB) to video conference. In case you have not used ilearn or BBB yet, here is step-by-step instructions.

  1. Go to https://moodle.dearbornschools.org/login/ and log in using your school ID and password
  2. You will see a large box that says “Enrollment Code”. In this box you will put in the code rc8qnu
  3. Click “Enroll”
  4. You will now be enrolled in “Ulfers Ancient World History”. Open this class.
  5. You will see three things:
    – a description of the difference between Office Hours and a Class Hangout
    – a link that says “BBB Class Hangout (all classes)”
    – a link that says “Ulfers Office Hours (meet one-on-one)”.

6. To join the Class Hangout, scroll to “BBB Class Hangout (all classes)” and underneath it click the blue “b” titled Class Hangout (all classes, not required)

7. After you click it, you will see a button that says “Join Session”. If I am already in the video chat, you will be able to click “Join Session” and join the chat!

I know it is frustrating to learn new programs and it may take a couple minutes to get used to iLearn if you haven’t used it very often. Hopefully, once we do this a few times, we will figure out all of the kinks.

This is also how we will videochat for Office Hours. You will go to “Ulfers Office Hours (meet one-on-one)” instead. You need to let me know you want to chat and we will coordinate a time.

This Week’s Assignment!

We are starting….. ROME! You probably have heard of the Roman Empire… it’s pretty famous. However, we are not going to focus on the “Empire” part yet. This week’s assignment is focused on the founding of Rome, and the other civilizations that contributed to Rome’s success.

Remember: every civilization is influenced by the civilizations that came before it!

There are two videos you will watch for the assignment and a little bit of reading (all of which are attached to the assignment posted on Google Classroom). Also attached to the assignment is an Instruction Video of me explaining the assignment. Please use that as an extra resource if you’re confused.

Video for Part 1:

As always, the assignment is due on Google Classroom by midnight on Friday!

If you have questions, email me for Office Hours, and please join the Class Hangout tomorrow at 1:30!

Monday, MAY 4th!

Hello! Happy Monday!

Joke of the Day:

What kind of tree fits in your hand?

A palm tree!

I hope you all are doing well! Hopefully you soaked in some sunshine this weekend! I know I did, and now I am a little sunburnt… I also got my hands dirty building a bookshelf! I’m pretty proud 😊

Below is a calendar of this week’s assignments:

Office Hours This Week:

  • Wednesday: 10-11 am
  • Thurs & Fri: 2-3:30 pm
  • By appointment

If you have questions on any of the assignments, please email me during those times and I will either email you answers, or can call and we can talk through the assignment on the phone. Just email me with the phone number I should call!

Assignment:

We are wrapping up Ancient Greece! We have looked at Greece’s geography, governments, city-states, internal wars (the Peloponnesian War), and foreign conflicts (the Persian War and Alexander the Great).

This week’s assignment will look at the things that ancient Greeks left behind– their legacy. Since this is a unit wrap-up, it will be worth more points.

You will read Chapter 31 (pages are attached below and in the assignment). Then you will make a slideshow on the important contributions ancient Greeks’ had on life today. You will read each section, choose important contributions and briefly write about how it affects us today. Then add at least one picture on each slide that relates to your contributions.

Yes, you can make your slideshow colorful and cool. But please remember: the info you write is what I am grading, so make sure you complete the work first, then you can go back and change the font, colors and background. Just make sure I can read everything easily!

Show me what you have learned during this funky Greek unit 😎
Due on Friday at midnight! SUBMIT on Google Classroom.

Email me with any questions you may have! Cheers team!
