Joke of the Day:

A garbage truck!

Here is the assignment calendar for this week!

*NOTE* There is no school on Friday so your assignment in this class (and maybe other classes) will be due this THURSDAY by midnight.

Housekeeping #1: WEB LEADERS!

Many of you have already applied, which I am SO EXCITED about. If not…

Are you a kind and helpful seventh grader who would like to help our new sixth graders feel like they are part of the O.L. Smith community next year? If so, please consider applying as a WEB Leader.

(You must be logged into your school email when you click the link!)

Applications are due NEXT Wednesday, May 27th. If you have questions, email me! ulfersk@dearbornschools.org

I am holding a BigBlueButton meeting at 2pm THIS Friday, May 22, to provide answers and clarifications. If you’re not sure if you want to apply, join us at this meeting for get more info on it!

Housekeeping #2: Track Team!

Just because we are going through this tough time and are stuck at home, doesn’t mean that we can keep up with our fitness!

So, Mr. Wellman created a Track Google Classroom page for you all. On this page you will find a 6 week @home workout schedule. Many of these workouts you would have seen throughout the track season at some point.
This page will allow you to communicate directly with Coach Wellman as you go through the workout. Share your successes, your struggles, ask questions and motivate each other to keep up with it!
If you go out for a run or walk please notify and get permission from parents. OR TAKE THEM WITH YOU!!

Coach Wellman will be monitoring and adding in his own motivation. IF anyone abuses this or posts unwanted comments, you will be immediately removed from the group and Admin and Parents will be notified.

We are all on the same team and in this together. Let’s help push each other to be our best and help each other through it!

If you have any questions please email coach Wellman at wellmaa@dearbornschools.org

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!    JOIN NOW! Google Class code:   vyqutz4  (you must use your school email to join, if not you will be removed).

Class Hangout This Week:

We are having another Class Hangout this week on BBB!

We are meeting this WEDNESDAY!!

  • 1st & 3rd hours: 12:30-1pm
  • 4th, 5th, & 6th hours: 1:15-1:45pm

When you login to our iLearn class, go to your hour’s BBB Hangout. Do not go to another hour’s BBB. I know who is in which period, so if you intentionally go into the wrong Hangout, I will ask you to leave and come back when your class is meeting.

You can find instructions on how to log into iLearn in last week’s post!

Office Hours This Week:

If you want a one-on-one video chat or phone call, I have my Office Hours this week Tuesday and Thursday, 2-3:30 pm, or by appointment.

This Week’s Assignment:

Ancient Rome lasted for over 1000 years. Within that time frame, there were hundreds of wars and violent conflicts (both conflicts between other kingdoms and Romans fighting each other). Roman leaders executed thousands of people, and many leaders were themselves assassinated.

Roman technology and culture (much of which was borrowed from other civilizations) spread to Europe, Asia, northern Africa and the Middle East.

Have you ever heard of:

  • Julius Caesar?
  • Constantine the Great?
  • Cleopatra?
  • Spartacus?
  • Jesus Christ?
  • Marc Antony?
  • Augustus Octavian Caesar?

These people were either Romans or clashed with Romans, and they remain celebrities today.

Unfortunately, there is no way for us to cover all 1,229 years of Rome’s existence, nor will we be able to cover a fraction of the historical and political conflicts that were seen over those years. We won’t even be able to talk specifically about Julius Caesar!

If along the way you come across something that makes you curious, by all means, look it up! Then email me to tell me about it because I love to learn new things about the ancient world.

This week’s assignment has two parts: a timeline and a video.

Remember, since we don’t have school on Friday, this assignment is due THURSDAY AT MIDNIGHT!

Have a great week, team!
