Here is the weekly assignment calendar!
Office Hours and Class Video Hangouts
Class Video Hangouts are back!! We had a few weeks off but we are starting class video hangouts again this week!
First, I wanted to clarify the difference between my Office Hours and a Class Hangout.
Office Hours: A time you can reach out to me for a one-on-one conversation or help. We can email, call, or video chat during those times… just email me and we will set it up!
Class Hangout: A time when many of us will be on a video chat and we go over an assignment, check in with each other, and just talk for a bit.
As of now, Office Hours and Class Hangouts are NOT required. It’s just an opportunity to get some guidance and check in with each other!
Office Hours Schedule:
- Tuesday: 2-3:30 pm
- Wednesday: 10-11 am
- Thursday & Friday: 2-3:30 pm
Class Hangout Schedule:
We will all be meeting at the same time this week. This is to help gauge how many of you are interested in joining. If there are a lot of you, we will go back to meeting by class next week!
Our Class Hangout is this Tuesday (tomorrow) at 1:30-2pm.
We are using iLearn and the Big Blue Button (BBB) to video conference. In case you have not used ilearn or BBB yet, here is step-by-step instructions.
- Go to https://moodle.dearbornschools.org/login/ and log in using your school ID and password
- You will see a large box that says “Enrollment Code”. In this box you will put in the code rc8qnu
- Click “Enroll”
- You will now be enrolled in “Ulfers Ancient World History”. Open this class.
- You will see three things:
– a description of the difference between Office Hours and a Class Hangout
– a link that says “BBB Class Hangout (all classes)”
– a link that says “Ulfers Office Hours (meet one-on-one)”.

6. To join the Class Hangout, scroll to “BBB Class Hangout (all classes)” and underneath it click the blue “b” titled Class Hangout (all classes, not required)

7. After you click it, you will see a button that says “Join Session”. If I am already in the video chat, you will be able to click “Join Session” and join the chat!

I know it is frustrating to learn new programs and it may take a couple minutes to get used to iLearn if you haven’t used it very often. Hopefully, once we do this a few times, we will figure out all of the kinks.
This is also how we will videochat for Office Hours. You will go to “Ulfers Office Hours (meet one-on-one)” instead. You need to let me know you want to chat and we will coordinate a time.
This Week’s Assignment!
We are starting….. ROME! You probably have heard of the Roman Empire… it’s pretty famous. However, we are not going to focus on the “Empire” part yet. This week’s assignment is focused on the founding of Rome, and the other civilizations that contributed to Rome’s success.
Remember: every civilization is influenced by the civilizations that came before it!
There are two videos you will watch for the assignment and a little bit of reading (all of which are attached to the assignment posted on Google Classroom). Also attached to the assignment is an Instruction Video of me explaining the assignment. Please use that as an extra resource if you’re confused.

Video for Part 2:
As always, the assignment is due on Google Classroom by midnight on Friday!
If you have questions, email me for Office Hours, and please join the Class Hangout tomorrow at 1:30!
