Spelling/Math

Dear Parents: The first Spelling list was given to students on this past Monday, along with the Tic Tac Toe activities. The Tic Tac Toe may be worked on at home or at school during Reading (Daily 5),and it will always be due every Friday. There will also be a Spelling Test every Friday. Please help your child with the Tic Tac Toe activities, and please help them to study the words.

There will also be a Math worksheet every night for homework. We will have our first Math test on Tuesday, Oct. 4. I will send home a Math study guide to help prepare for the test. Please help your child with this work. Thank you!

Open House

Dear Parents: Remember that tonight (9/15/16) is Open House from 6:00-7:30. I am looking forward to meeting all of you! Also, please send in a picture of your child if you have not already done so. Thank you, and see you tonight!

Welcome Back to School!

Dear Parents:

My name is Mary Kowalski, and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I hope you had a wonderful Summer. I am very excited to be back to school! The students are so polite and kind, and they already have been working very hard! I have a few announcements: Please send a healthy snack and a water bottle with your child each day. Make sure that students have gym shoes on every Wednesday for Gym. I would love to have some parent helpers for Math Workshop. Please let me know if you would be willing to help. Friday- PBIS Field Day

Dear Parents: This Friday, June 10 is our PBIS Field Day! Students will be participating in many activities as a reward for good behavior. Students may also purchase 1 Snow Cone each for $1.00. I must turn in this order as soon as possible. Students may also wear their red Haigh second grade t-shirts on that day.

On Wed. June 15 will be our 2nd grade picnic from 9:00-3:00 at Levagood Park. Students do not need a lunch that day, their lunch will be provided. They should bring extra water bottles, and outdoor items from home to play with.

Our last day party on Thurs. June 16 will be in the classroom, and students may bring a food or drink to share with the class. (We have 24 students) We will be watching a movie.

Week of 5/23-5/26

Dear Parents: The Unit 11 Math Test will be on Thursday, May 26. The study guide will be sent home today. Please help your child review for this test. Also, there will be no spelling this week due to no school on Friday. Thank you!

Week of 5/9- 5/13

Dear Parents: There will be a Math Test on Friday, May 13. The Study guide for this test will be sent home tomorrow. Please help your child study for this test. Thank you!

NWEA testing is now complete! The students showed excellent growth in Math and Reading this year. Thank you for your support in practicing at home!

Week of April 25-29

Dear Parents: A reminder that the Unit 9 Math test on measuring will be on Tues. 4/26. Please help your child to review the study guide that was given last week.

Remember that the field trip to the Zoo will be on Thurs. 4/28 from 9:00 – 2:00 approximately. All chaperones need to meet us there. Students should wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and a bag lunch. The cafeteria can provide a bag lunch that day for students wanting to buy a lunch. Thank you!

NWEA and Zoo Trip

Dear Parents: NWEA testing for our class will begin on Monday at 9:00 AM. Please make sure students are well rested, and have a good breakfast. Please have them practice on the NWEA site every day.

The field trip to the Zoo will be on Thursday, April 28. Please start turning in permission slips and money as soon as possible. The permission slips will be sent home today. Thank you!

Zoo Field Trip

Hello. The Field Trip to the Detroit Zoo will be on Thursday, April 28 9:30-2:30. Students will need to bring their own lunches that day. The cafeteria can provide a bag lunch for students wishing to buy. The cost of the trip is $5.00 for students, and also $5.00 for adults. I am still in need of 2 more chaperones. The permission slip will be sent home next week. Chaperones must drive and meet us there. Thank you!

Week of April 11-15

Dear Parents: The field trip today was wonderful! Thank you to the parents who were able to chaperone.

For Science and Writing, the students will be asked to do an animal report. Today I will be giving an assignment sheet about anything that needs to be included in the report.
