Meet the Teacher

Hi!

I’m Mrs. Korte.

I am excited to start another school year in Dearborn, but for the first time at Geer Park Elementary. This will be my 25th year teaching first grade. I taught for 24 years at Howard Elementary. I will be teaming with Ms. Krawczyk and Ms. Leal.

I went to the University of Illinois for my bachelor’s degree. I went to Eastern Michigan University for my master’s degree. I am certified as a reading specialist. As a student, my favorite subject was history. Currently, I love teaching Social Studies.

I just celebrated my 25th anniversary with my husband. We live on Grosse Ile with our youngest child, Alyssa. She is a freshman in high school. Our other two children are away at college. Our middle child, Connor, is a freshman at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Our oldest child, Sage, is a junior at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. We also have two fur babies, Scout and Gandy. Scout is our “old boy”. He is an 11 year old black labrador retriever. Gandy is our “little man”. He is our 6 month old yellow labrador retriever.

I love downhill skiing in the winter. My favorite place to ski is at Vail in Colorado. I love boating in the summer. In my free time, I enjoy reading historical fiction or fiction about parallel worlds that exist alongside our own (sci-fi or fantasy). In the spring, summer, and fall, gardening makes me smile. That includes mowing the lawn.

I became a teacher because I was a struggling learner when I was little. With hard work, I overcame this barrier. I wanted to help others to have academic success too. I love teaching.
