New work today: Writing and Reading

Writing both grades – Please find in Google Classroom – June 2 Personal Narrative Final Copy. This is your last writing of the year! Read the directions carefully. There is a video to watch first. The second video is the lesson – Mrs. Juntunen says it is long, so she suggests that you watch half today and half tomorrow. Then, follow the directions on writing your Personal narrative. She included a Thesaurus website to help you find better words. Have fun when you write! Due Friday.

Reading – You have a choice this week. I put 5 new books in your assignments on Raz Kids – www.kidsa-z.com. You only have to choose 1. Pick the one you think sounds the best! Read the book and take the quiz. These are the choices: Animals Feel Emotions, Life in Space, The Ant in the Photograph, Alia and the Furniture Troll, and World Cup Soccer. **Remember – you only have to read one and take the quiz. Due Friday.

Don’t forget Special Classes – good stuff this week again! Mrs. Baloga’s Interactive Music Room is so cool! I’ve been in there looking around today! Mr. Harvey has Cosmic Yoga! In Art, there are Origami Hawaiian shirts!

Dear Parents,

As the school year is coming to an end, we wanted to take this time to thank you for all of your continued support and understanding.  None of what we have accomplished could have been possible without the strong partnership we have as a community.

Our plan this week is to have a day for material pick-up and drop-off.  The day is currently planned for Thursday, June 4th in the afternoon.  In order to maximize safety, we have assigned timings based on your child’s last name.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter A-M, the pick-up/drop-off time will be from 12:00-1:30pm.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter N-Z, the pick-up/drop-off time will be from 1:30-3:00pm.

We ask that students do not accompany adults and that we practice safety precautions at all times.  Please plan on coming with a mask on, practice social distancing and come in to pick up items and leave immediately.  We greatly appreciate your support in keeping everyone safe and healthy.

Below are a few important pieces of information to be aware of:

  • Pick-up/Drop-off will occur on the South Playground (near Myrtle).
  • There will be an area marked for each classroom teacher.  Student materials have been placed in brown paper bags and extra material in a plastic bag ready for pick up with your child’s name.  There will also be a basket with the teacher’s name there for you to drop off any classroom books/materials.  These items should be placed in a bag, clearly marked with your child’s name.  Please remember, some students have lots of items, so come prepared.
  • In the lot, there will also be bins for you to drop-off:
    • library books
    • musical instruments
    • safety belts
    • service squad pins

Please clearly mark your child’s name on these items by either placing them in a bag or using a piece of masking tape.

  • There will also be a table to pick up your child’s medicine, anything left will be disposed of according to policy.
  • If you have been collecting pop tabs, we will also have the box outside to collect those pop-tabs.
  • Yearbooks and Spring Pictures have come in, there will be a table set up for those.  5th graders will get their yearbook in their promotion bags.

Since this will all occur outside, we are hoping that the weather cooperates.  If things change, we will let you know.

Have a wonderful day!

Ms. Tiba
Zainah Tiba

Principal

This will be our last week of assignments!! There will be no NEW assignments the week of June 8 – 11. June 8 and 9 will be the last days to turn in any work to be finished. Report cards will be done on June 11. Reminder: Report Cards for this marking are based on participation. Instead of 1,2,3,4, you will see M – regularly submitted work since on-line learning began, P – Submitted some work. LP – Rarely or did not submit work. LPs could result in Summer School on-line learning which will be from mid July – mid August.

**Progress Reports from this past week will be coming out this morning (Monday). I will also let you know the day you can come up to school and pick up the items that were in desks and lockers. Ms. Tiba is making a schedule. Please bring back library books, book bags, and any other books that belong to school or our classroom.

How many of you watched the Space X Dragon blast into Space Saturday night? It was awesome! I discovered the site N2YO, which predicts when we can go outside and see the International Space Station fly over us. I went outside Saturday night, and within 10 minutes, there it was! Maybe one day, we will see our future astronaut, Julia, go up to space to visit the space station or Mars!

This week, we will have our last Social Studies lesson in Economy. We will also be writing our Personal Narratives from your planning last week. This comes from the Digital Memory Book. This is due on Friday, so take your time and answer carefully.

I put a list of library books that were checked out by students in Google Classroom under LIBRARY BOOKS. Please look to see if you have any of these at home. If they were in the classroom book boxes or desks, I have already turned them into the library. Also, please find your blue reading bag and books that were taken home in that bag. I will post the day next week that we will have drop off and pick up.

Please read previous blog regarding pick up things/drop off things coming next week!

***Next week will be our LAST week of assignments!!! Hooray!

Ms. Tiba is working on a schedule for one day next week (week of June 1 – 5) for parents to come up to school and pick up your child’s things that were in desks and lockers. I will let you know the day and time as soon as I hear.

We are asking that you please find any library books at home that need to come back, instruments (5th graders), or any blue book bags with books in them that were sent home. I have already returned library books that were in student book boxes in the classroom. Please gather up these things from your homes.

I bagged all student desk items in brown bags with their name on it and Room 206. Most students have 1 bag. A few of you have plastic bags also that include things from lockers.

You will not be allowed in the school – there will be a designated pick up spot.

More information to come…..Thank you!
