1st, 2nd & 3rd Graders

C:  I can understand how to click and move things accordingly in “Santa’s Tracker” in order to complete the activities, by listening and watching my teacher demonstrate how the tools work.

L:  I can describe to my partner how to click, move and drag items in the various activities in “Santa’s Tracker” to code, paint and/or draw Christmas-related items.

FREE Full-Day of Preschool

This is an important notice for families with preschool-age children who are 4 years of age by December 1, 2017.

There is an immediate possibility of free full-day preschool beginning in January 2018 in the Dearborn Public Schools (next month). The family must be eligible based on risk factors and not currently enrolled in a GSRP program. If interested, families may pick up an application at the Cotter Early Childhood Center, 13020 Osborn or call Nadia Berry at 313-827-6150. Please respond immediately as slots are limited. Families must live in the city of Dearborn.

Celebrating Computer Science – Hour of Code

The Hour of Code was designed to show that anybody can learn the basics of computer coding and it has become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science.  Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science.  It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity.  By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.

C:  I can understand how to click and move things accordingly in “Kodable” in order to create a code (or program), by listening and watching my teacher demonstrate how the tools work.

L:  I can describe to my partner how to click and move items to add lines of code or delete them in “Kodable”.

2nd Grade & 3rd Grade

I can listen to instructions and follow them to write and run computer code.

Finishing Up!

2nd & 3rd Grades

The students will complete their Thanksgiving turkeys from last week.  Afterwards, they will go to typing.com (see Class Links at the right) to practice keyboarding skills.

 

1st Grade

First grade students continue to work on logging into the computers.  Afterwards, they will go to Keyboard Zoo (see Class Links at the right) to practice keyboarding skills.

Practice Using the Mouse and Home Row Keys

1st Grade

C:  I can understand how to click and move the mouse to use different tools in “Color, Draw & Paint” in order to create a picture, by listening and watching my teacher demonstrate how the tools work.

L:  I can describe to my partner how to click and move the mouse to paint, add stickers and stamps, and create shapes in “Color, Draw & Paint”.

 

 

I can learn the Home Row keys using the typing program, “Keyboard Zoo”.

Afterwards,

I can practice using the mouse by playing the Take a Trip game in ABCya!

Logging In, Practice with the Mouse, and Correct Hand Placement for Keyboarding

1st Grade

C:  I can apply the log-in procedure by using the Log-In Steps poster.

L:  I can orally explain the six-step process for logging into the computer successfully.

 

LOG-IN STEPS

1).  Press down and hold, the Ctrl and Alt keys and press the Delete key once

2).  Press the Enter key or use the mouse to click on ‘OK’

3).  Type in your username (first number) from your card

4).  Using the mouse, click into the next box and type in your password (second number) from your card

5).  Press the Enter key or use the mouse to click on the right arrow key

6).  Click on the application you wish to use

 

BUILDING YOUR MOUSE SKILLS

C:  I can remember how to use the mouse by following the Using the Mouse diagram.

L:  I can create a picture to practice my mouse skills using the PBS program Peg + Cat “Paint -a- Long”.
