Fables Test

Hello!

Tomorrow, your children will take a test on fables.

They will read a fable that they haven’t read before. They will need to identify the moral of the story as well as 2 characters. With those 2 characters, they will need to identify 1 character trait and give evidence of those traits from the story. We practiced both of these skills for the past two weeks.

You child will also need to write down 3 ways to identify a fable. I’ve listed those 3 ways below.

  1. Short story
  2. Talking animals
  3. Moral or Life Lesson

Also, don’t forget that a spelling test will also happen tomorrow.

University of Michigan, Dearborn Writing Contest

Hello parents!

I received an email about a writing contest that I think some of my students may be interested in.

If your child would like to participate, the information is below. They would need to complete this at home. They do not have to do this; it is optional.

Writing Contest Theme: The Importance of Family and Helping Others

Christopher Paul Curtis’s book, Bud, Not Buddy, highlights the importance of family and helping others. We invite students to write a personal narrative, poem, or essay related to the importance of family. We also encourage students to write about personal family stories and memories.

If students do not want to write about a personal experience, they may write about someone they know, make up characters, etc.

Awards are given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each of the grades along with one grand prize winner. Students who win awards will be invited to read their entries at the Nov. 12th festival.

Fable Fun

Happy Friday!

Today we are working on identifying character traits of characters in fables. The students worked in small groups and read a fable. They used evidence from the text in the story to back up their trait.

Here are a few pictures of some of the groups at work!

Supplies

Hello families!

I know the supply list that was sent home is very long.

The most important supplies that need to come in ASAP are:

  • 6 notebooks
  • 2 binders
  • Headphones

Thank you to everyone who has already brought in the requested supplies.

Have a great Thursday!

Spelling

Hello everyone!

Today, your child created his or her own spelling list from a long list we created as a classroom. Their list may be different from their friends even if they are in the same classroom.

Their list SHOULD be in their yellow home folder in the sheet protector. You can leave that list at home in a safe spot or keep it in their folders. They have the same list here at school glued into their spelling notebook.

Tonight for homework, your child has spelling and a science homework. Here is an example of how to fill out the science homework:

  1. The dog                        scratches his ear                    push
  2. The door                      opens                                        pull

Any questions? Leave a comment, text me through the Remind App, or send an email: kaltze@dearbornschools.org.

First Homework Assignment

Happy Sunday!

On Friday, I sent home the first homework assignment. The students need to write 4 clues about themselves. They will write about their family, favorites, summer vacation, and hopes & dreams. This is for an activity I hope to have completed by Open House!

Have a great weekend and a happy holiday! See you all on Tuesday!
