Assignments for Monday 3/30/20

TONIGHT: Virtual Family Meeting on Google Hangout at 6 pm

For all family members of students that are available, I will be hosting a Google Hangout at 6 pm. I will be able to address the ideas in the family survey you took, debrief with you about how online learning is going so far, and answer any questions you have.

If you are not able to attend this meeting, I intend to schedule a second one for later this week. Fill out this survey if you want to attend that second meeting: https://forms.gle/35bU1tRYWr4GxSKp8

Independent Study

Students will complete Assignment 1 of their independent study for the week. On Google Classroom, the assignment is called “Assignment 1” under the “Independent Study” section under “Classwork.” It is a worksheet where they will pick their final project to show their learning, set how much time they will spend a day on their learning, and decide how and what they will learn.

***It would be helpful to your student if they went through the worksheet with a family member who can help them make decisions about what they will do. Students should finish this assignment today so they are prepared to spend the other four days this week on the rest of their learning. My goal is to give all feedback for this assignment today so students are ready to learn throughout the rest of the week.***

Assignments 2, 3, 4 and the final project will be posted tomorrow for the independent study so students can complete them at their own pace throughout the week. It is recommended that students do one each day, and students could choose to spend as little as 15 minutes on each one, or a much longer amount of time if they are excited and motivated.

Math

4th grade is watching a video about quadrilaterals and the Lesson 15 video, then completing the problem set.

5th grade is skipping over to lesson 10 about finding the area of rectangles with non-whole number side lengths. They will watch the lesson video and complete the homework along with it.

ELA

1- Live read aloud lesson of chapters 41 and 42 of Holes at 12:30 on GOOGLE CLASSROOM. Here is the link: https://meet.google.com/jhg-jdhs-znk

2- Read a chapter book for 30 minutes (they could combine this with their small group reading assignment if they have not finished).

3- Writing assignment due sometime this week titled “My Life in Quarantine.” Students will write a personal narrative about what it is like to be living during Michigan’s shelter-in-place. This writing assignment should be done by Friday.
