It is our last week of school before the break! There will be many fun activities happening, including out holiday party on Thursday. Below you will find a reminder about our holiday party, and our homework/classwork for the week. Homework IS posted by day so that you can look to see what the assignment will be.

Remember, there will also be an exchange of books $10 or under during the party if your child would like to participate!
ELA
Students will continue their work on text structures this week, both in whole class lessons and small groups. In writing, students will draft their three body paragraphs of their persuasive essays.
Homework in ELA will be to read for 30 minutes each night. Students show they completed this homework by getting their planner signed.
Math
5th Grade Math
Students will complete the last three lessons in our unit on fractions. We will review for their test on Thursday, and take the test Friday.
Lesson 13 Homework (Monday night): Problems 1a, 1d, 2c, 2d, 3 a, 4
Lesson 14 Homework (Tuesday night): Problems 1a, 1c, 2b, 2c, 2d, 3
Lesson 15 Homework (Wednesday night): Review sheet due the following day. Students must show clear evidence that they attempted every problem in order to participate in the review session.
4th Grade Math
Students will receive their exams back Wednesday after the last student makes up the test. Our goal is to complete lessons 14 through 16 this week. The topic of this stretch of lessons is division with remainders.
Lesson 14 Homework (Monday): Problems 1, 3, and 4 – MUST draw a picture to show understanding
Lesson 14 Homework (Tuesday): Problem 2
Lesson 15 Homework (Wednesday): Problems 3 all, 4 all, 6 all
Science
Students will complete an investigation about the planets and gravity. We will engage in the investigation Monday, review it Wednesday, and take an assessment on it Thursday.
The only homework will be studying for the assessment. Here is a link to the mystery so students can review it at home: https://mysteryscience.com/astronomy/mystery-7/gravity/290?code=NjI3MDM1MjE&t=student
As a note, I found the assessment of last week’s investigation to be unfair, and so it will not count toward students’ science grades. I am working to edit our future science assessments so that the questions fairly measure what our students learn.
Social Studies
5th Grade Social Studies
Fifth graders will engage in some introductory lessons related to their new unit on early settlement and colonization in the Americas.
Test grades will be turned in this week (full disclosure: another teacher has to show me how to go in and access students’ online submissions. Thank you for your patience as I learn all the systems Lindbergh uses).
4th Grade Social Studies
Fourth graders will finish our current lesson about immigration to the United States. We will mostly be reflecting on the experience of people immigrating to America through Ellis Island.
