NEW “Continuity of Learning Plan” starts TODAY!

Important Takeaways about the Learning Plan:

• Completion of assignments is expected and will be reflected on June report cards.
• I will work with you and your family to remove obstacles that prevent your student from completing assignments.
• We will be learning new content in the remaining weeks of the school year.
• Every week, students will work on each of the core subjects (math, reading, writing, and science/social studies) for 100 minutes each.
• I will continue providing feedback on assignments to students several times a week.

Music, PE, Art, and Science Enrichment

Students have weekly assignments for each of their special classes. Students can find these assignments on Google Classroom under the Classwork tab. These assignments are required and will factor into report card grades for those subjects.

Math

4th grade: Lesson 4 of Module 5. Watch Knowledge on the Go video and complete the problem set. Due Tuesday night. Homework problems and EngageNY video can be done for extra practice. Students also need to have completed lessons 4, 5, and 6 on Zearn by Sunday. There will be one assignment on Google Classroom for this due Sunday.

5th grade: Lesson 16 of Module 5. Watch Knowledge on the Go video and complete the problem set. Due Tuesday night. Homework problems and EngageNY video can be done for extra practice. Students also need to have completed lessons 16, 17, and 18 on Zearn by Sunday. There will be one assignment on Google Classroom for this due Sunday.

ELA

No live lesson today! Live reading lessons will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at the regular time of 12:30. The new online learning plan made it necessary to reallocate instructional time to other subjects. Students will begin receiving video lessons in writing and social studies instead 🙂

1- Opinion Writing Assignment 1. Students will be completing a opinion writing piece this week in response to the prompt “Should community members stay home while people are getting sick from the coronavirus?” For today’s assignment, students will pick a stance on this issue. Students should watch my pre-recorded video lesson, complete the readings, and fill out the worksheet on Google Classroom. This assignment is due this evening so students can be ready for the next assignment tomorrow.

2- Readworks for each grade due Tuesday (this assignment is a short poem, so students should be able to focus on the writing assignment).

3- Read a chapter book for 30 minutes.

Social studies lessons begin tomorrow!

I will be available from 9 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday on the following platforms:

-Teacher Office Hours are on Monday through Thursday from 3 pm to 3:30 pm on Google Hangout. Students can log on and get their questions answered. The link will be posted on the Google Classroom stream right before office hours start.

-I can also set up a phone call with you for the following day if you need support that cannot be fully addressed over Remind or email. Since I will also be focusing on my family during this time, I cannot guarantee a same-day phone call.
