Hello all! I hope Spring Break was restful for everyone. I have announcements for the upcoming week and an outline of what we will be doing.
Check out this video with special messages from Lindbergh staff!
In Development: District Online Learning Plan
Superintendent Maleyko and the district committee for online learning are still developing the plan for curriculum, requirements, and grading for the rest of the year. The state of Michigan has stated that all schools must have their official online learning plan in place by April 28th. We will know what our district’s official online learning plan will be on or before that date.
Until we all receive that new guidance from the district, we will continue with lessons and procedures similar to our first three weeks of learning.
Scholastic Online Book Fair
The PTA is hosting an online book fair which runs April 8 through April 21. There’s a wide selection of materials for all ages—pre-K through high school—including books, educational workbooks, puzzles, arts and crafts, building sets, and more. Check out the “shop by grade level or age” feature.
Lindbergh earns 25% with every purchase when you click “Shop Now” from our webpage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/lindberghflyers(The shopping will not be activated until April 8.)
In order for our school to receive credit for your purchases, you must start from that specific book fair homepage (not a Scholastic Book Club or related site) and sign in. You do not have to be a Lindbergh parent to shop… so share with your friends!
All purchases ship directly to customers, with FREE standard shipping when you spend $25 or more (on books only – not the junky stuff).
Thank you for supporting our school and we hope that this opportunity to find new books provides some joy during this uncertain time. Keep reading, Flyers!
Math
We are switching over to a new resource that will be much more helpful to students. Eureka Math has released “knowledge on the go,” which offers whole video lessons and better support with the problem set.
https://gm.greatminds.org/en-us/knowledgeonthego
From this point on, student’s REQURIED assignment will be to watch the Knowledge on the Go video and complete the problem set. ***Students can also watch the Engage NY video and complete the homework for each lesson, but this is an OPTIONAL assignment that you can have your child do for EXTRA PRACTICE.***
4th Grade: We are starting on a new unit on fractions. We will complete lessons 1, 2, and 3 this week. New math lessons will come out Monday (due Tuesday), Wednesday (due Thursday), and Friday (due Sunday). Students will be responsible for watching the Knowledge on the Go video and completing the problem set, and can watch the EngageNY video and do the homework as optional extra practice.
5th Grade: We will complete lessons 13, 14, and 15 of module 5 this week. New math lessons will come out Monday (due Tuesday), Wednesday (due Thursday), and Friday (due Sunday). Students will be responsible for watching the Knowledge on the Go video and completing the problem set, and can watch the EngageNY video and do the homework as optional extra practice.
ELA
Students will not receive small group reading assignments for their current books for this point on. Students may finish their small group books on their own and return them to school whenever that opportunity becomes available.
1- I will be doing a live read aloud every day at 12:30. We will start out with short stories and read a new one each day, but will be starting our new read aloud book by the end of the week. The link will be posted on Google Classroom right before the lesson.
2- Students will get a reading assignment from ReadWorks or NewsELA three times a week: Monday (due Tuesday), Wednesday (due Friday), and Thursday (due Sunday).
3- Students will be doing a letter writing project this week. They will be writing a letter to a health care worker to thank them for their service during this pandemic, and including some sort of visual element like a “thank you” picture, card, poster, or drawing.
4- Read a chapter book for 30 minutes each day.
5- Spelling this week will be assignments on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday on how to use the spell check function on their computer or device.
Science
We are going to start our new unit on food chains. Students will have one required Mystery Science lesson and assignment that will be posted on Tuesday (due Friday), and one optional one that will be posted Thursday (due Sunday).
