This is a survey that I will use to inform how I adapt my online assignments for next week. I have also created one for students that they can find on Google Classroom under “classwork.”! Remote learning has been a unique and challenging experience for all of us, and I am committed to making it work for our classroom community the best I can. Any constructive feedback would be appreciated, as this is a new process for everyone involved! Please note I will most be able to take your family’s feedback into account if you and your student respond to the surveys before Sunday.

Virtual Spirit Week!!

Take a picture of your family completing today’s challenge and put it on social media.

Math:

4th: Students should do lessons 13 and 14 on Zearn.

5th: Students should do lessons 5 and 6 on Zearn.

  • 1- Each student has an assignment for their small reading group titled “Finish by Sunday – then the title and chapters of their specific book“. Students will watch the set of videos I filmed to prepare them for the reading, then will complete the assigned chapters and worksheets. If students do not have  access to a copy of their assigned book, please let me know and I will get them access to an e-book. Students should read the chapters and do the worksheets at their own pace with the goal of finishing by Sunday.
  • 2- Live read aloud lesson of chapter 39 and 40 of Holes at 12:30 on Zoom, or students can listen to the read aloud and YouTube and use that to complete the assignment. (Note: we read some extra chapters in the live read aloud yesterday, so I will provide students with extra videos on the chapters so everyone can be completely caught up.
  • 3- Read a chapter book for 30 minutes (they could combine this with their small group reading assignment!!!)

Social Studies

4th: Fourth graders should FINISH working on their writing assignment for the week: a descriptive paragraph about the branch of the federal government they were assigned. Students will find this assignment under the writing section under “classwork.” I filmed videos for them to watch so they can complete each step of the process along with me.

Fifth graders will FINISH their descriptive paragraph about the colony they took notes on for Monday and Tuesday’s assignment. There is an assignment on Google classroom under “writing” on the classwork tab.

Science

Due today: In this week’s assignment, students will be applying their knowledge from our last science unit to come up with a plan to protect an imaginary farm in Kansas. The directions are in the “science” section under “classwork.”

Homework for the Weekend

There is no homework beyond reading 30 minutes each day, completing student’s small reading group assignment (says “Finish by Sunday” in the title on Google Classroom), and catching up on any assignments that are not finished.
