Good morning students!
Please continue working on your film reviews today. Be in touch with me via remind or email about what movie you plan to watch. You have until next Wednesday to finish it. Have a great day and stay safe!
Students, your next task is to write a film review about a Cold War movie. Some options are given to you below, or you can pick your own option as long as you clear it with me. The rubric is attached. I am expecting these reviews to be at a minimum of two pages double-spaced, although you certainly could go far beyond that. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable feedback on your writing with no stakes. Do not be alarmed: I will grade these as if they were COLLEGE level essays, but will give you very detailed feedback and help you progress as writers. This is due one week from today.
In addition, please be in touch with me if you have any questions about how to find any of these movies or any other Cold War era movies. I am more than happy to help. Have fun watching the movies!

Good afternoon students! First, I want to say that I was very pleased with some of the discussions you guys had about the articles I posted last week! I think a lot of you guys did a great job grappling with the material and helping each other understand the concepts a little better. For today, what I want you to do is to watch the following Crash Course video on the Cold War to summarize where we are and give you a bit of a primer for what’s to come over the coming weeks. After you have watched the video, text me on remind one thing that you learned from it. Thank you, and stay safe!
For the record, A SUBSTANTIVE, INSIGHTFUL comment means that you clearly put some thought into your question or comment and grappled with the material in some way. If your question is something like “what is a nuclear bomb?” or your comment is copy/pasted from someone else’s comment, that does NOT indicate to me that you grappled with the material in any way. Have a great night! 🙂
Good afternoon students! This is the next assignment that we are doing for class. You are to look over the vocab words, articles, and political cartoons, and add FIVE substantive, insightful comments or questions about them. If you are looking for more places to add comments or questions, you can also add them to the supplemental readings and videos I have given you this week. You may add comments or ask questions to each other on the google doc. The point is to have a virtual discussion of the concepts we are learning about next. YOUR FIVE COMMENTS/QUESTIONS ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, MARCH 20 AT 11:59 P.M. As always, contact me via remind or email if you have any questions about what you’re supposed to do.

Remember students, today is the due date for your projects. Please submit them to me by 11:59 P.M. If you don’t, they will be considered late and will receive the usual late work penalty of half off. Reach out to me ASAP if this could be a problem for you.
Students, please join my google classroom site. The code is 6xxbqwy. Thank you!
In addition, to prepare us to talk about brinkmanship after you finish up your projects tomorrow, please read the following article and play the $100 bill game on the site. What do you think the $100 prize represents? The risk of a $10,000 penalty? We will use this game for discussion on Thursday.
