Good morning students! We’re starting week 2 of our unit on the Vietnam War this week! For your check in this week, I’d like you to watch the following video. Then, please answer the following questions by texting me on remind or emailing me (again, not by responding here!): 1) What made the Viet Cong a difficult foe for the United States to confront? and 2) What is guerrilla warfare?

Your other assignment for this week is to watch the following YouTube videos. After watching the videos, I want you to please EMAIL me (don’t comment here) a short paragraph response to the videos answering these questions: 1) what was the Gulf of Tonkin incident and why was it important? and 2) was President Lyndon Johnson justified or not justified in his response to the incident, and why do you think that?

Keep in mind I think YouTube might be blocked for a lot of you guys if you’re on your Dearborn emails. If you’re having trouble watching the videos, make sure you’re logged out of your Dearborn account first, then try to watch it.

Please read through the first two pages of the google doc, which explain the origins of the Vietnam War and how the United States first got involved in the conflict. Then, please answer the questions on page 3 of the document. Please answer the questions by making a copy of the document as you have done in past weeks and submitting your copy of the document to me. Thank you!

This week, we are going to start learning about the Vietnam War! We will be learning about and discussing the Vietnam War for the next three weeks, so get excited!

For your check in this week, I want you to look at the map and answer these questions. Please answer the questions by emailing me or sending me a text on remind.

1. What countries supported North Vietnam? What countries supported South Vietnam?
2. Based on your answer to #1, do you think North Vietnam had a communist government or a democratic government? Explain why you think that.
3. What countries does the Ho Chi Minh Trail travel through? (this will be especially important next week)

Remember again there will NOT be a google meet meeting today, tomorrow, or all this week. I’m expecting next week we’ll be able to do a video call again, but for this week a simple email/Remind check-in works perfect. Again, the work for this week is the 21.3 Guided Reading Questions and either the Civil Rights Playlist OR the short reflection on the video I attached. Remember, you need to do at least 75% of the work (aka 3/4 assignments) to be on track to get an A. If you’re feeling stressed or want help on work or anything, reach out to Ms. Homayed or myself — we’re happy to help.

The following link has directions for the Civil Rights Playlist I’d like you to create. You can choose to do this assignment OR watch the documentary I posted on Google Classroom and write a short reflection on what you saw. Again, do NOT do both, just pick one or the other.

You do NOT need to do the reflection and the playlist, just pick one or the other. The assignments are posted on Google Classroom.
