Homework for today:

1. Read for 15 minutes
2. Complete a weekly spelling activity
3. Go on study island math- I have set everyone’s account to module 4.  This is our new math unit we will be learning so this is a great way to practice our new material 🙂

Our Hardcover Classroom book that we wrote over “All About Penguins” has arrived! It looks wonderful!  Every student wrote and illustrated one page in the book over the type of penguin they were researching.  The 4 categories we wrote about are what our penguin looks like, what they eat, their enemies, and cool facts.

The students were able to hear 3 wonderful guest readers today for March is reading month: Nadia and Fatima Dakroub, and House representative Abdallah Hammoud 🙂

If you have lost your reading log, click on the link below to get a new one.  You can print it out at home.  Each student in the school was given a reading log on Monday.  We are working on teaching the children to be responsible with their homework and materials, so if they need a new reading log they need to either print out a new one or hand copy it onto a piece of paper.  I will accept both ways 🙂 Oakman reading log 2019

• Read for 20 minutes- make sure you mark the minutes you read on the reading log that you brought home yesterday.  Mom or dad need to sign the reading log saying you read for that amount of time.  Reading logs needs to be turned in on Friday.
• Complete a weekly spelling activity.
• Apply for a new classroom job.  Students are allowed to apply for 2 classroom jobs they would like to have for the remainder of the school year.  The jobs you may apply for are:
  • lunch helper
  • ticket helper
  • technology helper
  • librarian
  • electrician
  • hallway helper
  • paper passer
  • office helper
  • mailman/mailwoman
  • door holder
• Write 2-3 sentences explaining why you are the best person to do each job you are applying for.  This is due by Friday 3/8/19

Practice for your science test next Thursday.  The paper study guide was sent home last Tuesday.  If your child misplaced it you may also study by using the online practice slides and review game I posted on google classroom.  This is a great resource for everyone to use.  I showed the students today how to find it and I also wrote the instructions on the blog post below.

I received some messages from students saying they were unable to open the practice slides I previously posted because the document was too large.  I have broken it up into 2 documents: a study document with pictures and definitions and then a What am I? study game you can use to review.  It opened properly for me on google classroom when I tried it.  If it doesn’t work for you please send me a message and let me know and I will try a different way.

2. Click on google classroom (it looks like a school room with a green chalk board)
3. Go to Mrs. Patterson’s 2nd grade class
4. Click on the 2nd link with the two pdf files.  The top link has the activity as a whole but it is too large to open.

3. Review for the science test next week.  I have pushed the science test back to next Thursday 3/7/19 to give students more time to practice 🙂

Tomorrow is the last day you can donate $1.00 to the 4oceans charity.  Each dollar you donate earns you a ticket towards the 4 oceans bracelet drawing.  If you would like to purchase a bracelet (and choose your own color) they cost $20 (it goes to the charity).

Math tests are coming home today.  Our class average was a 2! Great job second grade 🙂

Happy Wednesday:

Today we got to experience a wonderful assembly about robots.  We got to see real life robots, droids, and even got to watch one of our classmates race a robot 🙂

Tomorrow is our math test.  I have opened the study guide up again so if you had already taken it 4 times you may take it again.  I have also placed the extra practice quizzes below so that you can practice other problems.

Tomorrow is also the monthly ticket drawing (bring your tickets) and the last day you can donate to the 4oceans charity.  Remember each dollar you donate earns you a ticket towards the bracelet ticket drawing.  Good luck 🙂

Complete the math study guide.  Our math test is on Thursday this week.  It is mandatory that each child completes the study guide below at least once before tomorrow.  Any student who does not complete their study guide by tomorrow will be calling home to let you know they did not do it.  I have had it on the blog for a week and I gave the students the chance to do it in class before school if they were having computer or internet problems.  I want every student to be successful so I want every child to practice 🙂
