March is Reading Month and our challenge is to read 200 books by March 31. If we accomplish this goal, we will have a pizza party.

What’s the 411?

To help parents have a better understanding of what we are doing each week, I’m going to begin doing weekly posts about our curriculum.

Here’s what we’ll be working on this week:

Reading – Text Dependent Analysis, which means we will be focusing on creating in-depth, detailed answers regarding a text, using evidence we find in the passage.  This is a VERY important part of the MSTEP test. There are online examples as well if you’d like to practice at home.

Writing – We will be continuing to work on opinion writing. STudents will revise their previous essays about cell phones in schools.

Math – Multi-step equations

Science – Wave properties

Social Studies – Federal government

Monday we will be taking our NWEA Language test and Wednesday afternoon we will be doing makeups for students who need to finish their tests.

NWEA Testing update

Good morning.  Here is the remaining testing schedule:

Wednesday 1/17  (afternoon)

Thursday 1/18 (morning)

Friday 1/19 (morning)

Monday 1/22 (morning)

“The time is always right, to do what’s right.” ~ MLK Jr.

Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He is probably the most well known activist of the Civil Rights Movement. He promoted peace, kindness, and equality among all.

Testing and Homework

Good evening families. Although we are all happy to be back in the classroom, we need to be flexible with timing. Tomorrow we will be taking the NWEA for math. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest and eats a healthy breakfast and lunch.

Next week we will be finishing the math test (if needed), as well as taking the Reading and Language NWEA tests. I do have them scheduled, however, that may change based on how the week flows.

For homework, the students have been receiving math daily and they must work on their reading logs. New MSLIP books have started, so please check with your child to see the assignment. I am trying to limit paper use, so it’s essential that I know if you do not have access to the internet at home.

Thank you for all you do! Your help is appreciated. 🙂
