Honors Physics Homework (Due Thursday)
- Using the circuit diagram below, find the total current and the current across each resistor. Do all three add up to the total current?
- A transformer has 500 turns of the primary winding and 10 turns of the secondary winding. Determine the secondary voltage if the primary voltage is 120 V.
- Assume one of the Niagara Falls’ generators produces 2,000 volts at a speed of 400 m/s. Find the product of the length and magnetic field.
- Neon signs require about 12,000 volts for their operation. What should be the ratio of the number of loops in the secondary to number of loops in the primary for a neon sign transformer that operates off of 120 volts? Explain your answer.
- Explain the difference between an electromagnet and electromagnetic induction. What are some examples of an electromagnet?
