Let me know if you have any questions.
Everyone: I know that there are a TON of questions regarding the rumor that Governor Whitmer will be calling for a closure of all schools for the remainder of the school year. Right now you know as much as I know! As soon as we know something concrete you will hear from me, as well as I am sure your other teachers and administration. Until then please continue to do your virtual learning assignments and continue to stay safe and continue to follow the stay in place order. I hope that you are participating in virtual spirit week! Today’s theme is something you have created, my photo is below can’t wait to see yours!
I have been crafting, cooking and all sorts of stuff. Here I have some pickled green beans my boyfriend and I made, and some green beans that have started growing.
Good morning. I hope that you all had a great weekend. I was waiting on updating the blog this morning until I watched the press conference from the governor, however not a lot of new information was shared. If you missed the press conference she pretty much said that she would be updating again this week about schools and whether or not to extend the stay in place order. I will let you know as soon as I know anything.
Forensics Students we’ve uploaded 3 different things on iLearn. The first is just the reading of the Forensic for Dummies section on tires. Please read the 3 short pages about tires as it relates to forensic investigations – some of it should be review from last week. Then there’s 11 questions that you need to answer about the reading. These questions can be done on iLearn and submitted there. Or if you prefer to print out a copy of the questions and answer them on paper you may, just make sure that you email me your completed work.
Chemistry Students please continue work on your project, I am extending the due date to FRIDAY at 11:59 pm, however I will have other assignments for you this week. Today PLEASE go to explore learning.com, click on ‘enroll in class’ then if you are in 5th hour enter code DHZKHZ if you are in 6th hour enter QKRTWF click continue and then follow the rest of the directions. Please have this done by Wednesday, that is when I will be providing more information and assigning your first task through the site.
Please let me know if you all have any questions, as always I will be available 10 am- 1 pm daily. Don’t forget that its spirit week! I am looking forward to seeing you and all your pets.
Here I am with my dog Andie, she has really enjoyed the stay-in-place order. She gets 2 walks a day and gets to relax with me all day!
On one hand I feel like theres no way its already been two weeks of virtual learning, and on the other hand I feel like theres no way its ONLY been two weeks! I am proud of those of you who are working hard to complete all the assignments given despite the uncertainty. I want to remind all of you that there is no down side to completing the assignments. You keep your brain active, you show your teachers you are willing and able to do what needs to be done to keep learning (building and maintaining professional relationships and a positive professional attitude), you have something to keep you busy, you keep your body on somewhat of a schedule. Please continue to complete the work assigned, and as always I will be letting you know anymore information as it becomes available to me.
Forensics Students there is a really interesting forensic files for you to complete. Some of you are slacking a bit when it comes to the viewing guides, whereas some of you are putting in a TON of work, please complete these to the best of your ability. You have a total of 3 assignments DUE TONIGHT AT 11:59 pm. I re-opened last week’s assignments and they will also close tonight at 11:59 pm. I WILL NOT re-open anything next week. You should have the notes/crossword puzzle, the tire track lab, and the forensic files done by tonight at 11:59 pm.
Chemistry students, I am not posting an additional assignment for you today. Your project planning page was due on the iLearn Wednesday, I will re-open it today if you still need to upload it. You also should have completed the household chemical inventory assignment (due tonight at 11:59 pm) You also should post in the COVID vs. Soap forum. Your initial post needs to be done tonight by 11:59 pm and then you need to respond to classmates by Sunday.
All students: please continue to check ALL your teacher’s blogs daily, continue to interact with us on remind, let us know if we can help you with anything during this scary time.
Next week will be a virtual spirit week, you all know I will be participating! I will be sending you guys my daily picture as well as posting them on social media, I encourage you to send me your pics from spirit week on remind in addition to sharing them on social media.
Hey everyone I hope you are all still doing well, staying busy, and healthy. There is no new assignments today. Forensics you will get one tomorrow, Chemistry students you will not have another assignment this week, please continue work on your capstone, and please post in the forum. This morning we had a google hang out meeting with Mr. Martin, he tried his best to answer any questions we all had but as of right now we don’t have much information, I assure you all as soon as we are told anything I will pass along that information. Governor Whitmer spoke this morning at 11 and encouraged us to continue to stay in. The state medical chief said that the peak of cases is only a few weeks away if we all do our part. Stay safe and smart y’all!
Stay in place day 2 Social distancing day 10? Who knows. No matter how long you have been social distancing or staying inside or not working I hope you are doing well. I’m sure you guys enjoyed no new work yesterday!
Forensics Students- Good news the sun is out and the new work for today involves you heading outside. It looks like there are three assignments but there really is only one, the first link is just to download the directions and background information, print this if possible, if not you will want to keep it handy when completing the post lab questions. The next two links are just a place to upload your data, and then post lab questions. The directions sheet will talk you through going outside and measuring the wheel base, track width, and tire width of a car. Please use either your own car or a relative’s vehicle. Use caution, it would be best to be working in a driveway or garage if possible. You will need a tape measure or some sort of measuring device. If you do not have a tape measure but do have a ruler or yard stick you could use string to make the measurements and then hold it up to the ruler. You may need to enlist the help of a family member. If you are struggling with how to make the measurements with the materials you have please let me know and we will work together. Remember my office hours are 10-1. Once you have completed your data table, either by printing it out and filling it in, or by creating your own, take a picture of it and upload it under tire track lab part A, then complete the post lab questions under part B. We will not be posting a new assignment tomorrow, But Friday at 9 am we will post your last one for this week. Please make sure your tire track notes/CWP, this lab, and Friday’s assignment (Forensic Files) are all completed by Friday at 11:59 pm.
Chemistry Students- You should still be working on your project, you need to upload your graphic organizer/planning page today by 11:59 pm. I also posted a forum today, it has a short video about how soap breaks apart the COVID-19 virus. Please watch the video and respond to the forum by Friday at 11:59 pm. I am then asking you to reply to classmate’s posts by Sunday at 11:59 pm. In addition to the forum and project planning you should continue your work on the household chemical inventory. Since its so nice out today maybe you could look for somethings out in the shed or garage. Let me know if you have any questions!
I hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy. Please continue to follow the Governor’s orders of staying home unless you are an essential employee, gathering essential materials, or are outside getting some sun on this gorgeous day! Thank you all of you who have been responding to my daily questions and check ins.
Good morning! I hope you are all doing well. There will be no new work posted for Chem or Forensics. There will be a new assignment for each class tomorrow. Chemistry you should continue work on the household chemical assignment as well as your project. Forensics students finish up the notes and crossword puzzle. Please let me know if you have any questions! I hope that you are all doing well. Today is day one of Michigan’s stay in place order, if you start to get stir crazy and are looking for something to do let me know I am happy to give you some FUN science themed activities or netflix shows!
Good morning! I just sent out an email to all my chemistry and forensics students, so please check your school email if you haven’t already. I will be posting grades on mistar today but will be checking them as ungraded for now. This week I will be posting assignments just like last week, all assignments will be due Friday at 11:59 pm, with the exception of the chemistry project planning page which is due Wednesday. Please be aware that this situation is still fluid and changing rapidly. I will let you know of any updates as soon as I know.
Today is the LAST day to pick up chrome books from school. DHS will be open for chrome book pick up from 1-3. Remember that we aren’t sure how long we will be home, or how virtual learning will change over the next few weeks, it is important that you go get a chrome book if you do not have a reliable device to use at home.

Please continue to reach out to your peers to check in on them and see if they need any assistance. Tonight marks the first due date. Everyone please take a minute to walk outside and enjoy fresh air for a bit! It is crazy windy outside today but its really warm, and supposed to be cold later on. I hope you are all doing well and making the best of all this. Remember to try and stay positive! Make good choices.
Good morning! I am sorry I didn’t post anything yesterday, I sat down for my office hours and got caught up chatting with you all, responding to emails, and posting assignments! First of all I want to start this morning by saying thank you for all the kind words and check ins I have received from many of you. I hope that you are all doing well, or as good as we can be all things considered. During my office hours I wanted to let you know that I am happy to just chat as well as help with coursework. I know I personally am missing communication with people other than my dog! Although speaking of Andie she has really been enjoying this time, she is living the doggie dream, taking lots of walks and hanging out with her people.
Okay so what should YOU be doing? Aside from staying home, and staying well that is! Well first things first Forensics Students: There are now three assignments for you to complete by Friday at midnight. Please let us know if you have any questions as to what the expectations are. Chemistry Kiddos you are up next: Your capstone project is posted. The proposal is due by Friday at 11:59 pm. All I need for the proposal is what product you plan on researching. Please make sure that you also complete the brain stretch, as well as the assignment I post today (this will be due Friday night as well, I will not be posting anything new tomorrow). If you were not able to upload your worksheets from last week, or you didn’t complete the start up quiz please do so today as well.
All students all classes: As of right now I will be grading and providing feedback for all assignments you turn in on mistar but the assignments will be marked not graded. Administration has asked us not to let any assignments count towards your overall grade…..for now. I will be grading anything that is submitted, and providing feedback. You will be able to see your grade on each assignment, it will just not count towards your overall grade as of right now. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
One last thing I need a favor from you, please, please reach out to your fellow classmates and make sure they are accessing all the course materials, if you know of someone who doesn’t have reliable access to resources please contact me. If you or any of your classmates are in need of any resources remember you can reach out to me, or our wonderful social work staff. Together we will all get through this!
