Welcome Back!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break. Please make an effort to keep your children active during this strange break. Try to focus and expand on what they already enjoy doing. It will make exercise much easier for them. Also, remember that most kids have a short attention span. Don’t expect Them to play soccer for an hour. Instead break it up. Do some exercises, practice some skills, then play a game of some kind using the skill. The younger the child the shorter the time should be.

Hope my posts have been helping.

I miss all my students.

Sun!

Hopefully everybody gets outside today.

An outdoor activity is to use chalk to create a hopscotch course. Have your child go through the course forward, backward, then create a new harder one. Lots of fun working on hopping and jumping.

To hop scotch have Student start at one end. If there is one square hop on one foot into it before going to the next one, then if there are two squares next to each other land on both feet with one on each square. If your child is younger they can just jump with both feet, separating them if there are two squares. Have fun!

Obstacle Course

As the disruption of our school year continues I have another idea for your family.

Set up an obstacle course for your kids inside or outside your home. Set up stations throughout an area and have your child do the stations in order. Things to climb over or under, doing exercises at a spot like 10 jumping jacks, etc. Let your kids help pick the stations. My son came up with playing the piano at a station and drawing as a station. Pretty clever, it does not always have to be a race.

I was happy to hear our governor today say to continue to go outside, just practice the social distancing.

I miss everyone. I will talk to you soon. If you are doing these activities, please take pictures and put them in my comments.

Scavenger Hunt

I got a great activity for you today. Go around your house and take pictures of different things on your phone or tablet. Then show your child the first picture and have them find it. Then let them swipe to the next picture and have them find that picture. To make it more difficult for older kids zoom in on objects like the knobs on a drawer or part of a picture on the wall. To make it more exercise show them pictures that are far apart. They can move up and down stairs also.

Then, take turns taking the pictures.

Hope you enjoy.

Nature trails

I remembered a great bike trail that I used to ride on a few years ago. Go to the bottom of the hill at Ford Field on the East side of the parking lot there is a small foot bridge to the other side of the river. Once you cross it head towards Brady street. Go under the bridge at Brady Street and the trail goes for at least a couple miles. We had to turn back before the trail ended. Great trail for biking or hiking.

We saw woodpeckers, turtles, ducks, and geese.

Indoor Activity

A great old song that is fun and full of simple exercises is Chicken Fat. It lasts about 5 minutes and is a good overall workout. Some of you might recognize it from Camp Dearborn.

After that take turns picking some favorite songs with your student and try to keep moving for an hour. You can use your phone, Alexa, or a tablet to play the music.
