M-STEP Vocabulary Homework

Dear Parents there is a list of m-step MATH words that is going home today. Please have your child look on the side that says M_-STEP math vocabulary. Have your child circle or highlight any words they have to heard before. This will help me answer any questions before we take the m-step test. Thank you!

Week of 5/1/2017

Happy Monday!

This week students start taking the M-STEP.  A sheet went home with your child’s scores from last year.  Also a chart with scores went home, which is a visual on different proficiency levels.  Our goal is to fall under the proficient of advance levels. Please talk to your child about the importance of this test.  Also, please ensure your child comes to school on times, sleeps well and eat a healthy breakfast.  Thank you for your support!

Week of 4/17

Happy Monday!

 

This week students in 4th grade will be starting NWEA testing.  Students will be tested in English Language Arts,Math, Science and Language. Please make sure your child is coming to school on time.  Eating a healthy breakfast and sleeping on time are factors that help students performance.  This will be the final NWEA test they will take this year.  The test will measure students growth from Fall 2016 through Spring 2017. There is no study guide for the test and students will be measured on many skills they learned throughout the year.  Please discuss the importance of this test with your child.   Your continued support is appreciated.

What are we LEARNING ABOUT this week?

 

Spelling words for the Week Focus: Suffixes and Science Academic Vocabulary

grateful, kindness, comfortable, wilderness, uncontrollable, axis, moon, orbit, gravity, rotation.

 

Reading: We will continue reading poems and discuss mood, rhyme, rhythm and structure.  Students will answer questions that relate to poem and must provide evidence to support their answer.  Also make sure you cite which STANZA/VERSE your evidence came from.  Back yourself UP!

 

Math: We are focusing on fractions the 2 weeks.  Students previously learned about fractions but there is always room for reteaching.  At this point students are coming up with their own examples (after teacher modeling).  Students are expected to upload a picture of their example into their google slides titles: All About Fractions

Week of 2/27-3/3

Hello Parents!  This Thursday March 2nd, 2017 is Literacy Night.  Come join the fun literacy activities, and don’t forget to get your free book at registration.

 

Spelling words: Bill of Rights, citizens, responsibilities, elections, freedom, decrease, unusual, introduce, decompose, proceed.  Test will be on Friday 3/3.

 

Friday 3/3/2017 Pajama Day- Please come to school with gym shoes. Make sure your pajamas are suitable for weather.

 

Students will be mailing letters to our local government to share improvements they observed in the community.  Please send an envelope and stamp to school by Friday. Specific details will be passed on classdojo as to how and where you can drop off the letter.  My goal is to have students be leaders in the community and find solutions to problems that effect us as citizens.  This ties in with out unit of study.  If you have any questions please let me know.

Spelling Words for the week of 2/6

Happy Monday!  The spelling focus for this week is the “tion” sound and the test will be on 2/10/2017.  Please make sure your child is studying their words daily.

presentation, petition, dictionary, communication, disruption, government, Congress, Constitution, Senate, House of Representatives.

 

Additionally we are wrapping up our math unit on measurement and data.  Students will complete the pre-test on Thursday 2/9/2017. The test will be on 2/10/2017.  Please review your child’s formative assessments that go home weekly for support as I will still support them in class.  Thank you for your involvement in your child’s education.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Read more…
