Science Consultant

Wayne RESA seeks a science consultant to support local districts in developing, implementing and assessing a science curriculum based upon national standards and the Michigan Science Standards and Benchmarks and Content Explanations.  Additionally, they will provide consultant and leadership services to Wayne County schools in science curriculum instruction, and assessment; school organizational development; school improvement and science professional development at Pre-K through secondary levels.

Position:
The successful candidate will:

  • Provide consulting and coordinate activities related to science curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Organize, plan, develop, support, and deliver professional learning activities focused on science instruction, curriculum development, and assessment
  • Support educators in using data effectively to drive instructional practice and decision making
  • Promote sharing of innovative and successful instructional resources and strategies
  • Model the principles of continuous learning, problem solving, and collaboration
  • Assist and lead Wayne County districts in planning and implementing the Math Science Center functions for science:  leadership, curriculum support, professional development, community involvement, student services, and resource clearinghouse.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor Math Science Center goals, objectives, and activities
  • Serve as RESA representative to Wayne County science organizations and local school district science liaisons
  • Organize, plan, and conduct science professional development sessions and training programs for local districts in a variety of locations.
  • Integrate the use of technology into science instruction and programs.
  • Participate in local district needs assessments, Math Science Center and Educational Services planning
  • Work in collaboration with other RESA staff to ensure client needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Collaborate as an active team member in RESA projects as assigned
  • Attend and contribute to department and sub-department meetings and planning sessions
  • Know current research and effective practices of curriculum, instruction, assessment; school development and school improvement; and professional development in the field of public education and particularly, in the area of science
  • Use professional judgment and act effectively to carry out the functions of this position within the direction provided by RESA mission and goals, the Educational Services Department goals and objectives and the Math Science Center Strategic Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required with major or minor in Science
  • Michigan teacher certification required
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience teaching science required
  • Experience as a science consultant preferred
  • Demonstrated skill in design and implementation of successful strategies for professional development and curriculum planning/development in Science based upon national and state standards required
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, teaching, planning and evaluation, and curriculum development required
  • Demonstrated sills in consultation, training, group facilitation and process required
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate emerging forms of technology into professional activities and public presentations required
  • Demonstrated skill in proposal development and organization and budget management preferred
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required
  • Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations required

Compensation:  Current WCSSF 11-Month Salary Schedule – Grade M ($66,607-$99,979 FY)

EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT CONSULTANT

Wayne RESA seeks a consultant to coordinate and assist in implementing programs to ensure Wayne county schools and districts are ready to succeed and be successful using school improvement and school turnaround as their model for improving.

Position:

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide consulting and coordinate activities related to school improvement including:  PA25, 335, accreditation processes, curriculum development guidance,  school organization and restructuring, leadership development, ESEA, accountability, data profile, School Improvement Framework and district Improvement Framework 2.0, program evaluation, comprehensive needs assessments, and State and Federal Programs
  • Provide strategic and technical expertise to  Priority and Focus districts and schools as part of the MI-Excel, Statewide System of Support (SSOS) identified by the U.S. Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Education including; development and implementation of the required Reform/Redesign Plan; transformation efforts that lead to rapid improvement in student achievement; support to schools in implementing and documenting MI Excel  SSOS requirements
  • Provide leadership to local schools and districts in school and district improvement and State and Federal Programs
  • Develop and implement short and long range goals and objectives that support both school and district improvement
  • Provide training and support for school and district improvement that meets the Michigan Department of Education requirements in school improvement, reform and redesign and technology
  • Organize, plan and conduct professional development sessions, training programs, and conferences for local schools/districts
  • Keep abreast of new developments, advancements, and trends in school and district improvement and State and Federal Programs
  • Advise districts and provide assistance in the initiation, evaluation, and improvement processes of programs with particular reference to the requirements and plans of the State Board of Education
  • Keep current with State and Federal laws and regulations to support districts in writing district and school plans
  • Serve as a member of the service coordination team in allocating and monitoring coaching and professional development support to identified eligible buildings.
  • Carry out the functions of this position within the direction provided by Wayne RESA mission and goals and Instructional Services’ goals and objectives
  • Work in collaboration with other Wayne RESA staff to ensure client needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner
  • Participate as an active team member in organizational projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations required

  • Demonstrated listening, verbal, and written communication skills, and presentation skills required
  • Experience in urban schools preferred
