Green Team Meeting Earth Day 4/18

Dear Green Teamers,

For Earth Day this year we will be planting and cleaning up the grounds.

Planting tools and gloves needed – Please bring small hand shovels with your name on them and gardening gloves if you have them.  Please wear an outfit that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Field trip –  Coming up we have a fun field trip to U of M Dearborn’s nature center on 5/16.  We will be eating pizza ($2/person) at the school then carpooling over to the location by 4 pm.  We will be studying the watershed and get to scoop out and examine the pond life.  We will also be having a nature hike and learning about the local flora and fauna.   This trip will go later than usual.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue Reading →

Today’s Green Team meeting – Next meeting 11/15

Green Team Meeting 11/1/16

Waste Free Lunches

Goal: To start a waste free lunch campaign at our school.

We have decided to have an assembly to explain why wasting food and not recycling is a problem.  We would like to create a skit to present it to the school.  This is what each group is covering so far.  If you missed the meeting you can pick a group to join or you may start another group about another related topic that we may not be covering.  We will do our research by our next Green Team meeting on 11/15.

  1. Putting less plastic in the trash-Ameer, Matthew
  2. What happen if you don’t put plastic in the recycling.- Lily, Hiba, Fatima
  3. Statistics of how much is thrown away and how much is recycled- Mahdi, Rawan
  4. What happens when we recycle?, Feeda
  5. How much water gets wasted if we waste food? Medina, Hayley
  6. How to bring in lunches that don’t have any non-reusable containers – Lea, Mira
  7. How it helps the environment to bring in waste-free lunches. Waad
