Dear Parents and Students,

There will be a chromebook distribution for Dearborn students on Monday, April 27, 2020. The following is a message from Ms. Hassan of Woodworth Middle School with detailed information:

We hope this message finds you all in good health. Woodworth Middle School will be handing out chromebooks to students who still need technology on Monday, April 27th from 12-2.  Parent and student ID must be present in order to get a chromebook. We will be handing chromebooks out off of Hubbard Drive facing Greenfield – Door #7.  We are asking everyone to stay in their car and drive up waiting for directions from our volunteers.  We ask everyone to adhere to the strict guidelines of social distancing in order to protect our families and our volunteers.

I hope everyone is in good health and doing well. We starting our second week of The City of Ember. I would like to thank all the students who are completing their assignments in a timely manner. Week 2 assignments have been uploaded to Google Classroom and are due on Sunday. Again, it is important that the work is spread over the week. It might become overwhelming if you try to complete it all in one sitting. I suggest that 20-30 minutes is dedicated to ELA and you also take the time to reread the previous chapters (if necessary for comprehension). This week we will focus on Chapters 2 and 3, there’s an audio and pdf version of the text. This is followed by comprehension questions for each chapter and a character analysis project.

This is a friendly reminder that The City of Ember assignments are due today. If you haven’t completed the assignments, be sure to open the link in Google Classroom and make a copy. This will allow you to type your answers directly on the slide. Once completed, click on the Turn In button. The assignments will count towards card marking 4 grades.

Hope everyone is doing well and in good health. We are going to begin our class novel, The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, for final weeks of school. Our focus between now and the end of the school year will be to complete the novel by reading and participating in the posted activities. Again, all presentations and activities will be posted in Google Classroom. Week 1 activities have been posted in Google Classroom and students will have the week to complete the assignments. I recommend that students pace the work over the course of the week and have it turned in by Sunday. I will not accept late work, since the work will become overwhelming if students are not completing them by the time they are due. If there are any questions or concerns, I can be reached by email.

Woodworth Hornets,

It’s time to participate in the Baby Picture Contest. Woodworth staff members have submitted their baby pictures (up to age 5) and want students to guess the staff member based on their baby photo. The top 3 winners will receive a DQ gift card. Use the following link to participate: https://forms.gle/qfNgohzuwQCkuuLQ8

Hope everyone is doing well and in good health. Again, I highly encourage students to complete the enrichments activities posted in Google Classroom. Our focus for this week will be on text structure. There are three videos and a Google Slide presentation that have been uploaded, along with three activities. Students are to watch the videos first and then complete the activities.

Virtual Spirit Week

In effort to keep the school spirit alive throughout our distant learning, Woodworth is having a Virtual Spirit Week. The following attachment provides the details of Spirit Week. Per Ms. Charara, once students take photos have them “tag us on Instagram @WoodworthStudentCouncil and they MUST hashtag #WoodworthStrong so we can see their photos and feature them on our page.”

It’s been a very unusual school year, but hopefully everyone is doing well and staying safe. Students have been asking about missing work and if they can turn in missing work. I’ll be completing grade inputs on Monday and students can make-up any missing IXLs from card marking 3 by Monday, March 30, 2020. Students can check which IXLs they are missing by checking student connect and the corresponding task name. Once an IXL is completed, send me an email with the IXL that was finished. Again, take care and stay safe.

Hope everyone is in good health and staying safe. This week’s enrichment activities include three ReadWorks articles. The assignments are displayed as two separate assignments, but pay attention to the “Week of March 23, 2020” which indicates the correct ones that should be completed . One article is titled, “Great Lakes? Not for Long” and the second assignment is a paired text which include “Important Inventors.” The requested date of completion is Sunday, March 29, 2020.
