It’s never too late to start planning ahead. At Howe School we begin transitioning when the student is 9th grade or sometimes even before then. Please watch the video below.

It’s Great to be Back!

Hello Friends,

Our class did great transitioning back from our one-week break from in-person learning. This is a friendly reminder that next Friday, 10/29, is our Trunk Or Treat from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. If you would like to donate candy or individual snacks to pass out please contact me via e-mail or send them in. It’s not mandatory. I do not have any family obligations so I plan on being there.

Our week was busy and went by fast. We completed many hands-on activities. Enjoy your weekend!

Virtual Learning Link

Hello Friends,

Below is a link for our class this week. The link is valid all week. We will begin each session at 11:00 A.M. Our sessions last between 30 to 60 minutes. To ensure that every student can attend we will hold class through Google Meet instead of Zoom. Zoom requires a Dearborn Public Schools e-mail which may cause complications due to the short notice.

The link was sent to your child’s school e-mail and to the Parent Connect e-mail listed. If you have issues with attendance we can work something out. I can be reached on my cell phone until 4:30 P.M. every day. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns academic related.

The closure was not my decision. If you have any further questions about why we moved to virtual learning please contact our school principal or the district’s main office.

Message From the Principal and Dearborn Schools

The message copied and pasted below was sent to your e-mail on Friday, 10/8/21

Greetings Howe School Community,

The staff and students at Howe School have worked hard to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our students.  We appreciate the support of our families and staff to complete daily screenings and implement the district mitigation measures in our school environment. Over the course of the past week, we have seen multiple covid cases in our school community.  We have been working closely with the district nurses and the Wayne County Health Department to complete contact tracing and to receive guidance for maintaining the health of our school community.

Out of an abundance of caution, and with support of the Wayne County Health Department we have decided to pause in-school instruction for the week of Monday, October 11-15 for the Howe Montessori, SXI and SCI Programs. We will provide asynchronous learning on Monday for students that will be posted through Schoology. Please look for communication from your teacher. Synchronous learning will take place on Tuesday- Friday. Chromebooks will be available for pickup on Monday from 10-12 for students who need one.

Thank you for your support as this will allow us to complete additional cleaning and help us return to healthy learning on Monday, October 18.

Thank you,

Tammy

Weekly Wrap-up

Hello Friends,

Thank you for returning the permission slip for CBI (community based instruction). Our goal is to make that a bi-weekly activity. Exposure in the community helps our students mature and grow. A quick trip to the local store is not an easy task for our students. The goal eventually is to improve the duration as the students grow up and mature.

When the monthly schedule is created for CBI I will send it home. If you do not want your child to patriciate in CBI I will find them a classroom to attend that day.

Please continue to check temperatures and monitor any cold/flu related symptoms. It’s important to prevent the spread of COVID and any sickness. I attached the district’s policy on when to keep your child home.

Thank you,

Mr. Hesch

COVID Case

A positive case of coronavirus (Covid-19) has been identified at Howe School on the Heights Campus. This individual was on school grounds on Monday,10/04/21. We are working closely with the Wayne County Health Department to identify exposures and prevent further cases. This letter is informational only; no further action is required for you at this time.  If you have not been contacted by the district nurse or your building administrator, you are not considered to be a close contact to the positive individual.

This message is a general message sent out to the entire school. The student was not in our room or near any of the students in room 105. The Wayne County Health Department will contact you if your child is exposed.

Thank you for checking your child’s temperature daily. It’s important that we keep everyone at Howe School safe.

Howe Trunk or Treat

This year Howe PTA will be hosting a trunk or treat in the back parking lot on Friday, October 29th from 6-7 pm. We are asking families to sign up to decorate trunks and pass out treats!

*Students are encouraged to wear costumes.

*Treats should be individually wrapped (We expect around 200 kids).

*Volunteers will be expected to stay from 5:30 to 7:10 pm.

(We need at least 15 cars to make this successful).

****Decorated cars will need to be parked in the lot from 5:30-7:15! No cars moving during the celebration. Only sign up for a decorated car if you can commit to those times****

If you have any questions please reach out to Angela Carman at carmana@dearbornschools.org
