Good morning!
If all goes as planned, this morning will be our last time for WIDA testing: the writing portion is left.
A full week of school expected 🙂 Spelling words feature the “schwa” sound. The “a” before or at the end of words: along, agree, again, idea, comma. Dolch words: green, always, them, very, because.
Our reading strategy circles back to how stories are set up: the beginning introduces the characters, setting and problem. Middle events work toward resolving the problem. Ending wraps up with a solution and life lesson.
Since we’re reading narrative, we’ll be focused on writing a narrative story. The students all began a story a few weeks back but due to snow/ice days I didn’t get to wrap it up like I wanted to. This week, we will be focusing on their story ending and what their main character learned from their experiences.
Math continues with mental and written strategies composing 10 tens to 100, moving on from 10 ones to 10. Written strategies will also be emphasized.
Science still is learning the names and pictures of land forms, also learning how they are formed.
Social studies continues with economics. This week the new vocabulary is “opportunity cost”: this is our second choice when we can’t have all that we want due to limited resources of money.
Have a good week and stay warm 🙂
