Week of 9/9/19

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. We are wrapping up NWEA and DRA testing this week. Our reading groups should be starting to meet by the end of the week. The Book Fair is here as you know from the fliers. We will be going through for a preview this afternoon. Thursday from 6:00-7:30 is the elementary Open House. Tonight at 6:00 is the first PTA meeting of the year. There sure are many things going on!

This week in class:

Math-We are working on rounding numbers up to one million. We will be using number lines for number placement as well.

Writing- We are continuing our work on our informational writing on bearded dragons. Those should be finished by the end of the week.

Social Studies- We are working on using relative locations to describe places on the map. We will be starting to touch on the regions of the US towards the end of the week.

Science- Our unit on energy will continue. We will focus on what happens to energy in a variety of situations and we will run some tests to develop some rules for energy.

Daily 5- Our focus is on finding the main idea in a text and supplying supporting details to prove it. We are starting with doing this in narrative text but our goal is to move to finding it within informational text.
