Week of 9/3/2019

I hope everyone had a relaxing Labor Day weekend. This week we have begun NWEA testing. This year the students are not taking the NWEA science so we have reading, language, and math. STEAM Club permission slips will be coming home this in the next few days.

This week:

Spelling- Students need to complete each activity on at this link. Their words are at this link and in their planner. They will have a spelling test on Friday. https://quizlet.com/_3ojh72

Math- This week we are working on place value up to the millions place. We are multiplying and dividing by 10’s to move numbers up or down the place value scale.

Science- We are reviewing the scientific process and starting our first unit which is on the layers of the earth, erosion, and weathering.

Social Studies-We have already started learning about the location of the USA in relation to the other continents. We will be focusing on the regions of the USA and we will be creating a flapbook for the different regions. I will let you know when those are up in the hallway for your viewing.

Writing- We are working on an informational piece of writing that will be published on a pyramid. We are focusing our first piece on researching bearded dragons with our tablemates and then we will be creating the models for publishing.

Daily 5- We are working on good fit books, DRA assessments, what it looks like during a reading group. Twenty minutes of reading with 3- “check for understandings” is still homework each night until assessment is done. Watch for their bookbags to come home tonight. These will go home and come back to school daily with their books and reading logs.

Have a great week.
