Study Guides

Good evening families,

After a lot of consideration, I have decided NOT to post answer keys to the study guides on my blog. All students have had many opportunities to ask questions about both study guides in class for the last 3 days. Today, I used class time to go over the answers and most of the students did not take advantage of the time to correct their work or even pay attention whole-heartedly. Many students just did not take my time very seriously. I am disheartened.

It is the student’s responsibility to find time to study for tests and I have been extremely generous giving class time this week. At this point, I feel it is up to the student to find the correct answers in their notes or the textbook chapters linked in a post below. I will not be spending more time on these study guides in class.

Please encourage your child to spend 10-15 minutes each day looking over their notes and studying for Friday’s test. Thank you!

Questions for book study guide

May 3 2019

Week of April 29 – May 3

  • Monday – I was absent. Students watched The Magic Schoolbus episode from Netflix. (Season 1 – Episode 1) Some classes did not see me due to a school presentation of the High School Musical Jr. play.
  • Tuesday – Afternoon classes were MSTEP testing and did not come to my room at all. Morning classes worked on a vocabulary assignment needed for studying for the upcoming test (next week!!)
  • Wednesday – I returned to school and morning classes were MSTEP testing and did not meet with me at all. Afternoon classes worked on the vocabulary assignment needed for studying the upcoming test (next week!!)
  • Thursday – All classes were given an opportunity to watch the Magic Schoolbus episode and work on their vocabulary assignment. With all of the confusion, I wanted students to have plenty of time to work on these assignments.
  • Friday – We did a sorting activity to learn about invasive species that affect Michigan. Some might even be right in our back yards! Students chose one of the organisms to use for their Wanted Poster assignment. They had to write up details about the species and then look up an article on the computer and tell me the title, author, and make a prediction of what the article is about. They do not have to read the article, just guess what it might be about based on the pictures / title.

Homework:

  • Vocab: 13 words from the chapter — give me the definition, draw a picture to represent the word, and use the word in a sentence that shows that the student knows the meaning of the word.
  • Wanted Poster

Missing Work

I plugged in a lot of grades today and there is an ALARMING amount of work missing in the 7th grade!

Part of our class period tomorrow will be spent distributing a list of missing work so that students will be informed… but also, please make good use of Student Connect to check student grades.

My grading is almost caught up. I still have to grade today’s quiz but hopefully once I get started, they will go quickly! Stay tuned…

We have a quiz tomorrow!

Week of April 15-18

We focused on Food Webs this week.

1st hour turned in: Food Web Worksheet (Tuesday), Create Your Own Food Web (Thursday), and of course Bellwork (Thursday).

2nd hour turned in: Food Web Worksheet (Wednesday), and Bellwork (Thursday)

6th hour turned in: Food Web Worksheet (Thursday), and Bellwork (Thursday)

All students have weekend homework. They were given a Food Webs activity packet. We did “Watch It” together in all classes. Some classes also did “Research It.” There is a checklist on the front of the packet for students to keep track of which sections they completed. The packet is due Monday.

If your child is feeling overwhelmed, have them approach the packet a little bit at a time. Breaking up the packet into sections might make it feel less overwhelming and easier to tackle. Follow this timing guide to ensure that the packet is finished before the end of break. Each “section” should take 10-15 minutes to complete. Good luck!

By the end of the day Thursday, have Watch It and Research It complete.

By the end of the day Friday, have Explore It complete.

By the end of the day Saturday, have Read It and Annotate It complete.

By the end of the day Sunday, have the entire packet complete (Assess It & Write It).
