Halloween

Your child may dress up for Halloween tomorrow as long as they bring in $2. Please make sure that they do not bring in any weapons(even if it goes with the costume)!

If your child would like to bring in candy, they need enough for 22 students. The candy needs to be in individual bags to make it easier to pass out. Also, we are in a peanut-free classroom!  Please do not send any candy with nuts or peanut butter.

Weekly Focus

Our students will be learning about many things this week including:

Reading:  Students will determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject.  They will know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.

Math:  Students will determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.

Writing:  Students will write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.  They will also, with guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing

Social Studies:  Students will continue to learn about maps, map keys, legends, directional symbols and the campus rose.

Science:  Students will continue to investigate whether there is an earth material smaller than silt.  They will participate in several experiments.
