Hello! Welcome to my first blog post for this brand new school year! I am looking forward to a great year! I will try and post pictures, updates and information on here as often as I can! Although I have this blog, the majority of my posts will be on remind. This application is much easier to manage, access, and communicate through. If you are not signed up for my class on remind, please do so as soon as possible. I will send home a paper on how to sign up for this or you can come see me if you need assistance.
One thing that I wanted to update you about is the importance of students reading at home. With the new Read by Third law it is very important that students are completing their reading at home. Here are some steps we are doing as a building to ensure that our students are at the reading levels they need to be:
- Reading book bags will go home daily
- Students must read books:
- K-1 (15+ minutes daily)
- 2-5 (30+ minutes daily)
- Students will complete a reading assignment daily
- Reading Logs– Signed daily by parents
- Online reading websites through the District homepage (CLEVER) https://dearbornschools.org/ and in our Monthly Newsletter
Please make sure that you do see your child taking out their book bag everyday and practicing reading those books. Please also sign the reading log that will be in your child’s folder. There are questions that your child will be filling out based on the book that they chose to read to reinforce the importance of your child comprehending what they are reading. These need to include the sentence stems if given, and be answered in complete sentences. Please do not sign unless you see that student’s are trying their best and taking the time to complete this reading log. Thank you for your support.
I look forward to another great school year!
Thank you,
Ms. Hankard
