We dug deep into properties today by using the 5 sense to better understand how to describe objects.  Students were so very excited to collaborate with their peers and brainstorm ideas together.  Please take a look at the links section of this blog, it includes many great websites for games and extended practice.

Students will be visiting the Dearborn Fire House on the 10th of October. They will receive permission slips today. Please return these permission slips no later then next Wednesday the 8th.  Here are this weeks spelling words. Don’t forge there is spelling homework every night of the school week.

Read to Self is underway!!!! YAYYYYYYYY!!!!

Our class reached almost 10 minutes of reading stamina today! Tomorrow we hope to read for an even longer period of time. Please ensure that your child is reading everyday for at least 20 minutes.

Here are some comprehension questions that can be used before/during/after reading:

  • What is the title of the book?
  • What does the cover tell you about the book?
  • What do you think the book is about?
  • What are you curious to find out about this book?
  • What do you already know about this book?
  • What do you want to learn?
  • Why are you reading this book?
  Questions to ask during reading:
 
  • What do you think will happen next?
  • What is the problem in the book?
  • Why do you think the character did that?
  • When you were reading this part, what were you picturing in your head?
  Questions to ask after reading:
 
  • Describe the setting of the story.
  • Describe how a character changed throughout the book.
  • Which of the characters did you like best?  Why?
  • What were some of the problems or situations the characters encountered?

Week of September 8th, 2014

Greetings!!! Each child now has their own spelling notebook that should be coming home EVERYDAY.  Please take special notice of your child’s dolch pre-primer spelling list results at the end of the notebook. The highlighted words should be reviewed at home after the required spelling homework is complete.  Along with daily spelling homework, your child will also be required to complete daily math and writing assignments.
