Reflections for September 21, 2011
Today flew by! We learned a lot in math~prime factorization, exponents, and factor strings. Make sure your child checks out the math tab for some cool online activities to practice these important skills.
We also watched a Brainpop video on Test Preparation. If you get a moment, view it with your child and help him/her follow the advice that is given. The website is brainpop.com, the username is geerpark and the password is brainpop. Check it out!
Finally, I want to personally invite you to our Open House tomorrow from 4:30-6:00. I look forward to meeting you all!
What A GREAT Movie!
I just saw the movie Fordson: Faith, Fasting and Football and IT ROCKED! I highly recommend it if you have not seen it! The message of the movie was the power of family and faith. Our own Ayah and her family were stars! Can I have your autograph, Ayah? 🙂
Late Start Tomorrow!
Students are expected at school at 9:35. Breakfast will begin at 9:00. Dismissal time remains the same. 🙂
Exciting News!
The planners are here! Please check the Assignments page for all classroom assignments!

Reflection for September 16
Happy Friday! It’s hard to believe that our first full week of school is done and over with! We are learning lots about ourselves as learners, and also about how our classroom works.
We have learned that we have to get busy right away, because the day slips away before we know it!
We have learned that we need to come in, get our things ready for the day, and get busy checking our homework and writing our morning reflections.
We have learned that “Checking In” for Daily 5 math takes awhile if we aren’t paying attention to our turn.
We have learned that our pre-student teacher, Mrs. Hussein, will not wait for us when it’s lunch time if we are standing around talking to our friends.
We have learned to get our coats and other recess things quickly so that we have more time to spend outside, enjoying the beautiful autumn days.
Finally, we have learned that school is an exciting place, jam-packed with opportunities, and we only have to be here and willing to learn to benefit from them! Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you all bright and early Monday morning! 🙂

Reflection for September 15
Boy, I should have worn a coat to school today! It was a chilly recess! As per usual, we were very busy today in Room 204.
In math, we discussed divisibility tests. Ask your student what the divisibility test is for 2s and 3s. If he/she can’t tell you, remind him/her to study the divisibility rules in the SRB. We also covered Area and Perimeter again.
In science, we are talking about conducting scientific experiments based on a hypothesis. The steps of the Scientific Method are :
1. State the problem
2. Formulate the hypothesis
3. Make observations
4. Design the experiment
5. Interpret Data
6. Draw Conclusions
7. Report results
For Language Arts today, we discussed our “I” chart for Working on Writing. Students were introduced to the writing center, where they can find printed paper, blank paper, a 3 hole punch and a list of writing topics. We are always looking for donations of printed computer paper from the dollar store to add to our writing center for published work. If you are able to contribute, it would be appreciated!
Finally, we had Buddy Reading with Mrs. Beydoun’s second graders. Our 5th graders did a wonderful job and were excellent role models. We enjoyed a little extra recess today because of this behavior!
Looking forward to a fun-filled Friday!
