For the Unit 2 math test! Congrats!
Parent Meeting
Good afternoon! On Thursday, October 23rd, I will be hosting a data meeting at 1:50-2:35 in my classroom. I will share data on each child in my room so that you, as parents, can use this information to be better informed about your child’s academic progress. Mrs. Timpf will also be in to discuss our recent NWEA testing. This is an EXTREMELY important meeting, as you will not only see how your child compares to his/her classmates here at Geer Park, but also to 5th graders across the nation! I look forward to sharing with you and being an active partner in your child’s academic success.
Let’s Try This ONE More Time!
I believe I finally have the right settings on my video. Please try it again. If it asks you to log in, create an account, or anything else, DO NOT DO IT. Thanks!
Science Video
After many technological issues, here is the link to our science video. Mrs. Klein’s class already viewed the video and took notes, so this assignment is just for Mrs. Gwizdz’s class. Thanks for your patience!
Stellaluna
Today we watched Stellaluna being read on storylineonline.net. We were quizzed on our listening skills!
Check out the NEW Language Arts Page!
Parents and students, we have a new and improved language arts page! Look for the tab above this post and click on it to check it out! Starting this week, I will post what we will be covering in language arts for the week, along with some resources to help you with the concepts. Daily mini-quizzes will be coming home on each topic, so please look for those to keep track of your child’s progress. I hope this will help both parents and students follow along with our language arts curriculum!

Each student that was interested in doing the project to raise their social studies grade received a copy of this.
Notes for the Week
Parents,
I’m back! I’ve missed my fifth graders terribly, but I learned some very interesting and engaging things while I was gone, and I can’t wait to share them with our fifth grade stars! There are a couple of bits of info that I need to share:
- Open House is TONIGHT! Please make sure to come with your child. We will all meet in the Multi-Purpose Room at 4:30. I can’t wait to meet you all!
- The conference sign up for November parent-teacher conferences is up! Please access it on the Parent Info tab of my blog. To sign up for a time, please reply in the comments section of the page. You may also sign up tonight at Open House. If the time slots available don’t meet your needs, please speak to me for alternate time choices. Conference times are based on a first come, first served basis. Sign up early! 🙂
- If you haven’t signed up for Remind yet, please do this ASAP. This is a text-messaging service that is free and allows me to send simple reminders (homework reminders, test dates, picture day, etc.) through text. I will have directions available at Open House tonight.
- Book orders will be placed today. Thank you to those that ordered!
- The book fair is up and running in the Media Center. It will be open tonight during Open House. Our class has a shopping time for tomorrow morning also.
I look forward to seeing you all tonight, and for you to see what we’ve been up to in fifth grade. 🙂
Reminders and Info for Next Week
Next week, from Monday, September 15 through Wednesday, September 17, I will be out of the building at a science professional development meeting. My sub will be Mr. Laginess, who was a pre-student and student teacher at Geer Park. The kids are excited he’s coming, and he’s excited to be here!
If you have not corrected and returned your child’s emergency card, please do it on Monday. Please make sure all information is accurate on the front AND the back, and that you sign it.
Spiral math quizzes came home today. Please make sure to sign them and return them on Monday as well. All spiral math quiz scores will be averaged together at the end of the cardmarking and will count as one test grade for math. Students should be studying their daily spiral math, which is currently a review of fourth grade math concepts, and asking questions in class if they are not understanding something. SRBs would be helpful for spiral math as well.
If you need to get in touch with me while I’m out next week, email is the best option. I will be checking it throughout the day at my training. You can reach me at gwizdza@dearbornschools.org. Thanks and have a great weekend!
Spiral Math Quiz Tomorrow!
Students should study their daily spiral math and use their SRBs for help!
