Field Trip Day!
Fifth graders had an action-packed day today! First, we were bussed over to Henry Ford Community College, where we were met by Mr. Murrell, our tour guide. We split into three groups and rotated through three stations. One station was located in the science building at HFCC, which was the planetarium. We learned about the stars in the fall sky, and all about how airplanes fly. Next, we took a walking tour of the solar system! HFCC has a scale model of the solar system on campus, and we had a guided tour by 2 astronomy students! Finally, we headed next door to UM-D where we took a tour of the observatory, and learned all about telescopes. We completed our field trip at Mercury Lanes, with a game of cosmic bowling!

Important Info for This Week
*If you have not signed up for a parent/teacher conference, please click on the Parent Info tab at the top and select a time that works best for you. Leave me a comment with your name, your child’s name, and the day and time you would like to meet.
*Pizza Kits: The PTA is having a fundraiser by selling pizza kits. We encourage ALL students to participate in this fundraiser. Sell to your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, or have your parents take the order form to work. WE DO NOT WANT YOU SELLING DOOR TO DOOR. Sell ONLY to people you know! Read the accompanying letter from the PTA for more details. The winner will receive a Toys R Us gift certificate! Remember, the PTA pays for assemblies, classroom supplies and FIELD DAY! The more money you raise, the more they spend! 🙂
*Field trip: To kick off our next science unit, which will be about the solar system, we will be taking a field trip on Tuesday, November 11th to Henry Ford Community College and U of M-Dearborn. We will participate in a solar system walk, planetarium lesson and observatory experience! Then, we will be bussed to Mercury Lanes for a pizza lunch and a game of cosmic bowling! We will wrap up our field trip and return back to school by 2:30 that day. Because of our awesome bake sales, there is NO COST for this field trip!
*There will be no school on Tuesday, November 4th, and we will have a half day on Friday, November 7th. Dismissal is at 11:45 that day.
*There will be a science test on Thursday. Check the calendar for details.
Halloween Info
Tomorrow is Halloween! Students may wear their costumes, however we need to remember 3 things:
1. No masks
2. No weapons or fake weapons
3. We have gym! We still need gym shoes!
We will head down to the PTA-sponsored pumpkin patch to select a pumpkin in the morning. Students will be offered a chance to take a fall-themed picture in the gym at that time, as well. Photos may be purchased for $2.00. Then around 2:00, we will parade around the park, trick-or-treating through the woods! If it is raining, we do have a back up plan to walk the halls. But let’s hope that isn’t necessary! The office is still collecting candy donations for the Halloween parade, so please donate some candy if you haven’t already done so. Tomorrow will be a fun day full of learning and fun, and I’m looking forward to it!
Geometry in Fifth Grade
We took our geometry lesson outside! We learned about adjacent angles and vertical, or opposite angles.
