Happy New Year!

Week of January 4-8

Kindergarten

Content Objective: I can demonstrate comprehension of how objects move by exploring and sorting with various objects to see if they roll, spin, or slide.

Language Objective: I can orally explain how objects move using the sentence stem:

The _______ rolls.

The ________slides.

The ________spins.

Vocabulary: force, push, pull, move, toward, away from gravity, spin, roll, slide

P.FM.00.12 Describe the direction of a moving object(for example: away from, toward).

First Grade

Content Objective:  I can demonstrate comprehension of clouds by using cotton balls to recognize how the sky looks when it is cloudy, partly cloudy, and clear (no clouds).

Language Objective:  I can write to explain my observation of today’s cloud cover by using the sentence stem:

Today’s cloud cover is _____________.

Vocabulary: observations, weather, clouds, atmosphere, water drops, evaporation, cloud cover, cloudy, foggy, partly cloudy, clear

E.ES.01.21 Compare daily changes in weather related to temperature, cloud cover (cloudy, partly cloudy, foggy), precipitation, wind.

Second Grade

Content Objective:

I can demonstrate comprehension of the properties of water in a liquid state by experimenting with different surfaces (wax paper, writing paper, aluminum foil, and paper towel) to see what happens when drops of water fall on each surface.

Language Objective:    I can write to explain what the water drops did when they fell on different surfaces and from these results predict what water does when it rains outside on various objects such as a window, dirt, leaf, rock, etc).

Vocabulary: water, liquid, solid, gas, dropper, drops, properties, absorb, bead up, waterproof, surfaces, spread out

E.FE. 02.13 Describe the properties of water as a liquid.

Third Grade

Content Objective: I can demonstrate knowledge of light refraction by observing experiments that demonstrate light being bent when it passes through different mediums such as, air, water, and glass.

Language Objective: I can write and draw to explain what I learned about light refraction.

Vocabulary: light source, straight, light rays, air, water, glass, prism, light refraction, bend

P.EN.E.2 Light Properties- Light travels in a straight path. Shadows result from light not being able to pass through an object. when light travels at an angle from one substance to another(air and water), it changes direction.

Fourth Grade

Content Objective: I can demonstrate comprehension of mass and how to measure it by using a balance scale and gram pieces to measure similar objects.

Language Objectives: I can write to explain what I learned about mass and how to measure it.

Sentence stems:

Mass is____________________________.

It can be measured by______________________________________.

Vocabulary: matter, mass, takes up space, measure, balance scale, gram, kilograms

P.PM.04.16 Measure the mass(balances in grams or kilograms of objects.

Fifth Grade

Content Objective: I can demonstrate comprehension of the size difference and order of planets in our solar system by using clay to make lumps into the scale of the planet sizes.

Language Objective: I can write to explain my thoughts on this activity.

What shocked me?

What I already knew?

What I learned?

Vocabulary: planets, scale, sizes, solar system, order

E.ST.M.1 Solar System-The sun is the central and largest body in our solar system that includes other planets and their moons.

E.ST.05.11 Design a model that describes the position and relationship of the planets and other objects to the sun.
