Students that may have missed the first “Online Course Selections” open window dates from April 28th – May 5th, you have a second opportunity to do so NOW. The time window has re-opened from May 14th through May 22nd. This will be your LAST OPPORTUNITY to choose your Elective Classes for next year, so BE SURE to complete this task if you have not already done so.

To complete this task, go to your school email account and find the recent email that I have sent to you regarding “2nd Notice for Course Selections”.  Login into your Student Connect and you will find a “Course Selection” link to choose your electives classes for next year. At the bottom of my email, you will find both written instructions, and a link to a video that will help you successfully complete this task.  It is VERY IMPORTANT that you complete the online course selections, so that you will have a schedule for next year that includes elective classes of YOUR CHOICE.

The time window for Course Selections for current 6th and 7th grade students is NOW OPEN. Students will be able to select Elective Classes that they would like to have for next year. Course selection is a time sensitive task, so there is a time window from Tuesday April 28th thru Tuesday May 5th for students to complete this task. Students can find the Course Selection Link in their Student Connect. Every student has received an email which includes written directions and an instructional video to assist students with the course selection process. Hello Applicants of Henry Ford Early College. I hope that you and your families are staying safe and well. Due to Co-Vid19 and the district’s current closure, the Henry Ford Early College will not be able to administer the previously scheduled Reading Test. However, as a replacement for the reading test, the Early College has decided to use a Lexile score instead. The NWEA provides a Lexile score on which the Early College will be basing the qualification for the lottery. To qualify, a student needs a Lexile score of 950 or higher. The corresponding RIT score should be 214 or higher. If you have a 214 or higher on the RIT, then you will qualify for the upcoming lottery. The Early College is currently scheduled to hold a Virtual Lottery during the first week of May. Please continue to refer to your student email for any future communications and updates from the Early College. Dear Students, while we are together experiencing very unique circumstances regarding COVID-19, this is just a friendly reminder that although we may not be currently attending school in the typical manner, your education should still remain a HIGH PRIORITY during our shift to online Virtual Learning. This means that, as always, you are still responsible for your academic progress and success. You need to hold yourself accountable for your educational responsibilities toward that success. With that being said, please be sure to make it a part of your daily routine to check and complete all online daily assignments that your teachers are providing for you. Do not hesitate to communicate with your teachers if you have questions or need additional support. Again, it is your responsibility, AND your academic success depends on it! Hello Students and Parents, I hope you are doing well!  This message is for all 8th grade students that have applied to one of the Henry Ford Early College programs. The required reading test that was originally scheduled for Saturday March 28th at the Early College has been postponed, due to COVID-19 precautions. There is no new date scheduled at this time. As we move forward, they will come up with a new date yet to be determined. Please continue to refer to your student email, the Early College’s website and my counseling blog for any further updates regarding the rescheduled reading test. The application deadline for Henry Ford Early College has now expired. Please check your school email on a regular basis for any communications to you from the Early College.  Please check your email for an invitation to take the SRI reading test on Saturday March 28th at Henry Ford Early College Building A, Lower Level (in front of the bookstore).  The required testing will be on a first come first serve basis. Open house helps families explore
Dearborn’s high school programs

High school and middle school parents are invited to an open house at
Michael Berry Career Center to explore the District’s many special high school
programs.  The open house is March 4 from
5 to 7:30 p.m.

MBCC houses or oversees several career and technical programs for
students including culinary, construction, business, criminal justice, computer
programing, medical careers, digital design, education, welding and more.  Automotive technician courses are also
offered at all three high schools.  Students
and families can learn more about what is offered and specifics for each
program.

The open house, though, will also provide information on other high
school programs offered in the district. 
For example, the District now offers three Henry Ford Early College
programs – one each for medical, education and manufacturing.  Manufacturing covers careers ranging from
HVAC to welding to maintaining/programing manufacturing robots.  All three programs are housed on the Henry
Ford College campus, with transportation provided from the student’s home high
school in Dearborn.  All three allow
students to attend for five years and earn both a high school diploma and an
associate degree at no cost to the family. 
The medical and education programs also accept students from outside the
district, but those students need to have their own transportation.

Similarly, the District offers the Henry Ford Collegiate Academy.  However, those students attend two years at
their home high schools – Fordson, Dearborn or Edsel Ford.  Then if they score well enough on their 10^th
grade PSAT, they are invited to participate in the academy and start taking
college courses.  Students would again
attend for a total of five years to graduate and get their associate degree.

In all four of the five-year programs, Dearborn Schools students are
eligible to participate in activities at their home high school, including
sports and clubs, through 12^th grade.  The programs differ in degree options, school
environment, transportation, and more. 
The open house is a great opportunity for students and parents to get
more specific details to find the best fit for the student.

The open house will also have information about the Dearborn Center for
Math, Science and Technology (DCMST), a selective program for top performing
students in the district.  Those students
attend half a day at the Dearborn Heights Campus, and half at their home high
school with busing provided.  The
selective Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Middle School also
will be on hand to talk to students and families.

Representatives will also attend from the Dearborn Magnet High School,
Henry Ford College, Michigan Institute for Aviation Technology, Dearborn Adult
and Community Education, and more.

The District hopes curious parents and students take this opportunity
to explore what Dearborn Public Schools has to offer.  The Early Colleges and DCMST are currently
accepting applications for next year’s ninth grade class.

PR 37 MBCC graphics lab – Michael Berry Career Center students work in the computer graphics lab. A March 4 open house at MBCC will include several programs Dearborn Public Schools offers for high school students, including the vocational/technical classes at the center.

Eighth grade students that are interested in applying to the Henry Ford Early College Program have until March 1st to apply.

Once you have applied, please continue to check your school email for further communications from the Early College.

Henry Ford Early College applications that were ORIGINALLY scheduled to be available by Jan 15th, has now been moved to late January.  No specific date has been provided by the Early College at this time.
