Henry Ford Early College High School (HFEC) is specifically for students interested in entering the health care profession. This small high school is a collaboration between the Dearborn Public Schools, Henry Ford College (HFC), and the Henry Ford Health System. Students enter the school in the 9^th grade to pursue a career in health care. Successful completion of the 5-year program results in students earning a high school diploma and an associate of science degree, a career-ready certificate, and/or up to two years of college credit. Pre-Education High School is specifically for students interested in becoming Educators. This small high school is a collaboration between the Dearborn Public Schools and Henry Ford College (HFC). Successful completion of the 5 year program results in students earning a high school diploma and an associate of science degree in Elementary, Secondary, or Special education, a paraprofessional certificate, and/or up to two years of college credit, at no cost to the students or their families. The link to complete the HFEC/MFG/Education Application is below.  Before you click and begin completing your application, please take note to these points:

1.  You must be logged into YOUR school email account, NOT a friends or moms etc.

2.  When you click the link, the first page is important information, Read it (do not skip it), then click NEXT

 3.  After you hit NEXT, you will be in the application process, make sure your parents are with you when you complete the application.  (One application per student, per DPS email)

4.  Recommendation letters will be sent to your counselor, science, and math teachers to complete and the report cards will be sent by the school. (you, the student, do not need to do anything in this step)

5.  All of this takes time and (all emails on the application) will receive an email once your application is complete.

6. Only 1 application per student will be accepted.

7. Application may not be edited/changed after you click submit.

All 7th & 8th grade students will soon be working on career exploration thru a website called Career Cruising.  Over the next couple of months Ms. Gronau will be coming to classrooms to present Career Cruising and work with students as they explore career opportunities and develop student EDP’s (Educational Development Plans). Have you thought about your plans after high school?

Career Cruising is a self-exploration and planning program that helps people of all ages achieve their potential in school, career and life.  Students will explore various careers that may best suit them as well as develop and maintain their EDP (Educational Development Plan).

TRY THESE!

1. THINK POSITIVE! Say to yourself, “I will perform well on this test because I am prepared.” Take some deep breaths and visualize your success.
2. Read ALL directions carefully before you begin.
3. Know the point system for grading. Give the most time to the big point questions.
4. Skim over all questions: Do the easiest ones first. Leave the one’s you are unsure of for last.
5. Be careful about making changes. Your first hunch is usually correct. Only change it if you feel strongly about the corrected answer.
6. For essay questions, create an outline. Use “Who, What, Where, When, and How” as the guidelines for your answers.
7. Set aside time at the end: Read over your answers. Check for errors.
8. The next day, start preparing for the next test by keeping up with all readings and assignments!! 🙂
9. Always get a good nights rest (8 hours) the night before your test and eat a good balanced breakfast the morning of your test.

Hello Students, Woohoo, you are halfway there! We have arrived at the mid point of the year and are ready to begin 2nd semester. As we have all experienced, this has been a challenging and unique year for ALL of us, but you have made it this far! I am hoping that you have done your ultimate best to adjust to remote learning and continue to take hold of your destiny toward a successful year. As we begin the second half of the year, remember to hold on, set your goals, never give up and be the BEST that you can be to finish off the year! Your first goal could be to make this marking period the best one that you’ve had yet. So, Re-Charge Yourself and Get To It! Good Luck, work hard and remember that you are almost there 🙂

Earn a college degree before leaving high school.

The Henry Ford Early College is a program where a student can achieve both a high school diploma and an associate degree at the conclusion of 5 successful years. Students will attend a combination of high school and college classes during those 5 years. The program offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to earn an “associate degree”, as well as readiness to work in a healthcare or manufacturing related field upon graduation. The Early College also offers opportunities to get a head start toward a teaching degree. .

A reminder that 2nd marking period is approaching and will end on Friday, January 22nd. All students should review their student connect and be sure to complete, and submit, any assignments that may be missing.

Hello Students, I hope that you are all doing well! We have finally come to the end of the first marking period already, WOW, that went fast! I know that Remote Learning can be challenging at times for some students and that some of you may need extra help. I want to let you know that I am here for you if you need me, either academically, socially, emotionally or on a more personal level. Now that 1st marking period has ended, this is a very good time to reflect on how 1st marking period went for you. How did you do?? Ask yourself, “what can I do to step it up and improve myself, and my academic success for 2nd marking period”? “Do I need to change or improve my study habits”? Remember that it is your responsibility to take charge of your learning and to work to the best of your ability. When you apply your best effort and good study habits, you can successfully improve your grades!

On Monday, Nov. 2nd we will begin the 2nd marking period. This can be a fresh start for you if you didn’t do as well as you had planned during 1st marking period. The following are some things that you can do for yourself to help you be more successful during 2nd marking period.

Set Academic Goals. Setting goals can establish a clear pathway to academic success! Goal setting will help you focus on what you need to get done to be successful. It is a plan of action of what you want to achieve and how you will go about it. It is best to set small goals that are reachable realistic. Goals will help prevent you from becoming overwhelmed, frustrated, or discouraged with your school work. Achieving your goals can make you feel good and more confident with your school work, as well as your personal life. Contact me if you would like help setting some goals for yourself.

Be sure to complete ALL daily assignments, and on time. Your grade is generally calculated by adding up all of the points you earn by completing your assignments. The more points you receive, the better your grade will be. By completing all of your daily homework, it will eliminate any missing assignments which can affect your grade. If you fail to do some of your class work, those zeroes can DRASTICALLY bring down your grade. If you do have any missing assignments, be sure to make them up and turn them in as soon as possible.

Let your teachers know that you’re making an effort to do better and ask for their help when needed. Follow your teacher’s suggestions and accept their offer for help. Attend all in person and virtual Learning Labs that you are invited to. If you feel that you need additional help and need to attend additional Labs, just ask your teacher and they will make arrangements. Remember, your teachers EXPECT you to ask questions and ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and/or ask for help when you feel that you need to.

Go for Extra Credit! Take advantage of extra credit assignments that your teachers offer. Extra credit assignments are a good way to not only improve your grade, but it also shows your teacher that you are making an extra effort and care about your grade and academic progress.

Exhibit “Active Participation” in class. Participate in class by taking notes, having your camera on during Synchronous Learning/Zoom, making eye contact with your teacher, raising your hand to answer questions and offer input. This will show your teacher that you are making a conscious effort to do well in their class. Participation is important!

Study in a quiet environment. Find a quiet environment to set up your “Study Station” and attend your remote classes. Choose a place where you can study without interruptions or distractions so that you can concentrate better ie: eliminate TV, radio, cell phone, other individuals or things that can be distracting. It is also important to keep all of your school supplies together and organized at your study station.

Establish a good routine and good study habits. Good study habits and routine are essential for your academic success! In addition to having a quiet place to study, you should establish a routine of making sure that your study station is ALWAYS the same spot where you study. Keep all of your school supplies( ie: paper, pencils/pens, highlighters, notebooks, folders, computer or chromebook ect.) neatly organized at your study station. Set a routine schedule of when you will study and don’t forget to also plan small 10 minute breaks for yourself .

Stay organized! In the absence of organization, papers, notes and other materials can easily get lost or misplaced. When in class, take good notes and keep them organized so that you can find them and review them when needed. Use folders, binders and notebooks at your study station to help you organize your class notes, review sheets, assignments etc. It is also helpful to use a planner or calendar app to stay organized. Write down all of your assignments, tests, quizzes, projects and due dates. Make sure to check your planner EVERY DAY so that you know what you have to do. It is a good idea to spend some time each night organizing what you will need for the next day. Keep yourself on track by practicing good organizational and time management skills…..You will feel better and more confident about your school work if you do!

Good Attendance! It’s hard to get good grades if you miss class a lot. Do your very best to attend class every single day, and try not to be late. Teachers usually make important announcements at the very beginning of class, so you could miss important information if you are even a few minutes late….BE ON TIME!

We hope this post finds all of you in good health! We wanted to share with you our plans on distributing your child’s personal items from their lockers. Our staff will collect, label, and bag your child’s personal belongings left in their school locker. We have set schedules in place for distribution. Distribution of student personal items will be off of Hubbard St. at door number # 7. This will be one way traffic only on Hubbard facing Greenfield just like we did for chromebooks.
