Holiday Shop News from PTA

Holiday Shop starts today! Thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up to help our students shop. We are still in need of a few more parents to help on Wednesday and Thursday morning. If you are available please sign up on the link below. Couple of new things for this year’s shop, if you don’t want to send the kids in with cash you can go online(www.holidayshop.org/giftcert) and purchase gift certificates for them to use. If they don’t use the full amount they will receive cash back. Also, if we are out of an item that they would like to purchase they can pay for it and we will get them that item before school lets out for winter break.

Read by 3rd Grade

Based on Public Law 306 (October 2016), third grade students who are more than a year below grade level on the state ELA assessment are under consideration for retention in third grade.  Dearborn Public Schools staff in elementary schools have been systematically planning to ensure that teachers have the training to teach reading effectively and that students receive small group instruction based on their needs.  The current year second graders are the first group to potentially be impacted by the legislation.
You are invited to join the district task force to strengthen the planning process and to ensure that the community is informed and engaged in the success of every student.  If you are able to attend an important meeting, on January 10th,  regarding this law please click the link below:

Penny Wars – Lunch Reward

PTA will be rewarding all 2nd grade students with lunch on Friday, December 7th for winning the Penny Wars!  Pizza and other items will be served.  No need to send your child with a lunch on Friday.

Thank you for your donations!

Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Just a reminder that Snow PTA has a few things going over the next two weeks and we need your help!

First, we are doing popcorn day again on Friday, Dec. 7.  Helpers are needed to help pop, bag and deliver to the classrooms starting about 11 a.m.  Younger siblings are welcome to come too.  Meet in the lobby.

Next, also on Dec. 7 we are having another book bingo.  Calling starts at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.  We need some donations for the bake sale and a few people to help set up the event and then assist at the bake sale.

Last, but the biggest, is next week’s holiday shop.  If we do not get enough volunteers to staff the sale, we might have to cancel.  We would especially like one person to step up and agree to be there for the entire sale each day Tuesday and Wednesday.  We realize a whole day is big commitment, but the kids really love getting to shop on their own.  If you are able to help, please visit the sign up at:

Holiday Shop – Help Needed

The Holiday Shop will be at Snow from December 11th to December 13th. We are using a different company this year, and they have some great new products for our kids to purchase. They also have gift certificates available for purchase online.  If you don’t want to send the kids with cash, this is a great option. Information will be sent home next week including the time the classes will be shopping. We have created a sign up for volunteers to help during shopping hours. If you are available to help please sign up, we can’t do events like this with out great parents like you!

Thank you, Snow PTA
