Nouns and Proper Nouns Homework

1st and 2nd graders learned about nouns and proper nouns today in class with our assistants Mickey and Minnie Mouse.  Please complete the noun/ proper noun assignment tonight and bring it back to school tomorrow.  Students – look for your name on the paper! 🙂

Also, please remember to have your child read 20 mins. each evening.  Please record books read onto the reading log.  Book bags are due on Friday of each week.

Thanks for your cooperation!

1st Grade Field Trip

First Graders will be traveling to Upland Hills Farm on Thursday, October 20th.  Mrs. Kearney planned this trip and will send home information on it soon.  I will be sending my first graders with Mrs. Kearney and Mrs. Slater’s classes, along with parent chaperones.  Please be sure to fill out a criminal convictions note in the school office if you’d like to chaperone.  This must be processed through the Dearborn Police and usually takes about 10 days.  If you already filled this out last year, you are good to go!  Your background check is still good, yet needs to be updated every 3 years in our office.

Thank you and look for a permission slip in your child’s folder in the next week or so.

Mrs. Kearney’s email is:   kearneb@dearbornschools.org

2nd grade parents – I will let you know when a 2nd grade trip is planned. 🙂

NWEA practice at home

Good morning parents,

I hope that you are staying dry!

To help your child meet his/her end of the year NWEA Goal you can go on the Dearborn Public Schools website and go under RESOURCES (on top right), then select STUDENTS.  Then find USEFUL LINKS and click on NWEA RIT Practice  https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/nweapractice/  Once you are there, click the area of your child’s RIT score.  (This is the score that I circled on your child’s NWEA report that I sent home 2 days ago.)

For example:  My child scored 181 in math, I would click on the 181 section in math.  Choose any of the blue links to work on skills in the 181 RIT level. The same thing applies for reading.

Thank you for your support at home.

NWEA Scores

Your child’s NWEA Student Progress Report will be coming home today.  I circled your child’s fall score and attached a grade equivalent chart.

Grade Equivalent numbers starting with the number zero represent kindergarten level.  Exs:  0.5 is kindergarten 5th month; 1.6 is first grade 6th month,  and 2.3 is second grade 3rd month.

Please let me know of any questions that you may have.  We will be retesting in January.

Thank you.

Book Bags

Books bags are coming home this evening.  Please return them to school each Friday.  Students must read each book to help build reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension.  Inside the bag, there is a book log to keep track of books read and comprehension questions to ask your child during and after reading.  Thank you for your support at home.  Please let me know of any questions!

They were rewarded with a M&M ice cream treat after lunch on Friday!  Great commitment and dedication over the summer boys and girls!  We will continue to use MYON and MobyMax in the classroom during Daily 5 to help improve our reading lexiles.  Students are encouraged to go on these websites at home.  If you are having trouble getting on these websites from home, please refer to my previous blog post.
