Covid Case at Snow

COVID-19 Case Identification

April 20, 2021 by Mohammad Abdelfattah

A confirmed case of coronavirus (Covid-19) has been identified at Snow School. The positive person was on school grounds April 16, 2021. We are working closely with Wayne County Health Departmentto identify exposures and prevent further cases. This letter is informational only; no further action is required for you at this time.

I want to thank all staff and students for following in through social distancing measures and adhering to all other guidelines, like wearing masks at all times and not being in close contact with anyone for 15 minutes or more. I want to also remind all staff and students that we need to respect everyone’s privacy at all times. Your safety and privacy are important to us. Again, we thank all of you for adhering to all guidelines.

The virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person to person, through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Spread is more likely when people are less than six feet from each other for at least 15 minutes. A person who is a close contact of someone who is infected with COVID-19 may experience COVID-19 symptoms typically within two to fourteen days after a person is exposed.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. Symptoms can include: Fever (>100.4oF), cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, loss of taste or smell, abdominal pain.

There are many things that can be done to keep our schools, homes, and communities “COVID-19 free” and protect ourselves and loved ones:

  1. Children and adults should stay home when ill.
  2. Washing hands often with soap and running warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  3. If a hand washing station is not available, use hand sanitizer properly. Gels, rubs, and hand wipes must contain at least 60% alcohol. Dispose of wipes in the trash after use.
  4. Practice Good Respiratory Etiquette (cover a cough with elbow versus hand).
  5. Follow guidance for wearing a face covering and social distancing.

If you have questions, please contact Wayne County Health Department at 734-727-7078.

Following the guidance of the MI Safe Schools Roadmap, the school has been disinfected. This includes spraying classrooms, hallways, locker rooms, and common areas as needed with a sanitizer, along with other methods of disinfection.

Important Reminder: COVID 19 Test at Edsel Ford on April 5 from 11am-6pm. Free and Open to anyone who needs a test.

Click Here for the information. Please pre-register but walkins are allowed.

Those worried about carrying COVID back with them from spring break are invited to free COVID testing at Edsel Ford High School on Monday, April 5.

Dearborn Public Schools will host a free, COVID rapid-testing site at Edsel Ford High School on April 5 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is being run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Anyone in the area interested in receiving a COVID test is encouraged to use the site, especially those people who do not have symptoms.  The district is hosting this screening site so families who may have traveled over spring break or gathered with other families for the Easter holiday can get tested before students return to school and parents go back to work and potentially spread COVID to their peers.  Dearborn Public Schools reopens after its spring break on Tuesday, April 6.

Please note, a negative COVID test does not lessen any quarantine requirements.  Those who have traveled internationally still need to quarantine for seven days after their return and those who are considered a close contact for someone with COVID will need to quarantine according to the guidelines provided by their health department.

At the April 5 screening, rapid tests will be provided.  Appointments are requested and will result in faster service, but walk-ins are also accepted.  Face masks must be properly worn while on school property, and social distancing protocols will be in place at the testing site.

Edsel Ford High School is at 20601 Rotunda Dr., Dearborn, MI.  Testing will be conducted outdoors.  Those coming for testing should enter the student parking lot at the stoplight on Rotunda.

To register and schedule a test appointment, visit http://honumg.info/EdselFordHS. The online form will also collect contact information and other details that will be needed before the testing.

“We realize that after more than a year of cancelled events, many of our families have plans to travel or visit with others over spring break this year.  We encourage them to continue to be safe and wear masks and practice social distancing,” said Superintendent Glenn Maleyko.  “Hopefully, they will also consider getting tested when they return, so they can have some assurance that memories, not disease, are all they are bringing back to share in Dearborn.”
