WELCOME to 2nd Grade!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Dear Families,

I am looking forward to having an AMAZING year with your child!  Together, we can create a positive environment so that your child can become an independent, confident and well-rounded learner!  I’m hoping that the following information will help answer many of your questions regarding 2nd grade.  If you have any questions, about the classroom or expectations, please contact me. I want to have an open and understanding relationship with you and your child.

My email is grizzed@dearbornschools.org.

My voicemail is (313)827-7572.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Grizzell

Arrival:  Please have your child line up on the cement located outside of Door 2. (Culver St. side of school) At the bell, I will meet the children outside and walk them into the classroom.  To help students gain independence, I ask that they say goodbye to you outside and they enter the building with classmates.

***Please let me know if your child will be riding the bus to and from school.***

Tardy Students:  Please try your best to ensure that your child is on time.  The entry bell rings at 8:35 a.m. and the tardy bell at 8:40 a.m.  Any child coming to school after 8:40 a.m. MUST be taken to the office by an adult and signed in.

Dismissal:  Our class will dismiss through the same door, (door 2), that they enter in each morning.  The students and I will be waiting outside of door 2 until they spot you. They should be picked up promptly at 3:35 p.m.  Children who are not picked up shortly after the bell will be sent to the office for their safety. Also, for the safety of your child, please keep me informed throughout the year of any changes in your child’s routine.

Classroom Blog:  To stay as up to date as possible, I will be maintaining a class blog page:

https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/grizzell/

This will be a GREAT source of information about the classroom happenings!  Please let me know if you would NOT like your child’s photo to be posted on our classroom blog.

Classroom Management / Discipline Policy:  I will provide a positive learning environment and I expect your child to come ready to listen, respect others and try his/her very best.  Snow Elementary will continue implementing a school-wide behavior system, PBIS – Positive Behavior Intervention Support. During the first few weeks of school, your child will review the rewards and consequences of this behavior system.

Individual Reward:  Every day your child has the opportunity to earn blue tickets (Pack Pride Points) for following the behavior expectations, demonstrating an exceptional act of kindness, or positive effort on a task.  At the end of each week, I will randomly pull blue tickets from a box. If your child’s ticket was pulled, then he/she may earn a toy or sweet treat from our prize box. Also, your child’s name may be called on the school’s morning announcements as a special recognition.  I will happily accept toy or candy donations throughout the school year. I appreciate your support!

Whole Group Reward:  Students will be encouraged to work well together.  Whole group rewards include: popcorn, sweet treats, or free time on the computer.

Homework Folders:  Your child will receive a Homework Folder on the first week of school.  All notes and homework will be placed in this folder. Homework Folders will travel to and from school each day.  Please check your child’s folder every evening.

Book Bags:  Your child will receive a Book Bag within the first 2 weeks of school.  More information will come home soon.

Lunch:  Our lunch time is 12:00-12:38 p.m.  Students will enjoy recess first and then eat lunch in the cafeteria.

Special Schedule –   As of now, our special schedule is:

Monday:  Art  Tuesday: Enrichment

Wednesday:  Gym & Media

Thursday:  Music

Friday:  Music

Field Trips:  We are planning to go on three field trips this year.  If you would like to join us for field trips, please make sure you have completed the background check in the office.  I would recommend filling out the form asap. The form takes 10 school days to process through the Dearborn Police Department.  It good for three years, so if you completed it within the last 2 years, then you are all set!

Birthdays:  If they choose, students may celebrate their birthdays by bringing a treat to share with the class.  Please refrain from sending treats with any type of nut because of nut allergies. As of now, we have 19 students.

Many exciting things are planned to ensure quality learning experiences.  To get off to a good start, we would like your help. This suggested list of items will be beneficial for your child to bring to class.  If you are unable to purchase all of these items, there is no need to worry.
