Valentine’s Day

Image result for heartThe students have been told that they are welcome to bring in cards and a treat, if they want to, for Valentine’s Day. We will make a bag so that each student can put their goodies in something. Our class will also play BINGO, have a donut, and fruit as a treat. Most of the students have their cards ready but just in case they don’t – we have 25 students. They do not need to put individual names on them. It usually goes faster if they don’t write out all the names, but just in case here is the list.

Request for Plastic Cups

Dear Families,Image result for red solo cups

Our February PBIS celebration is almost here and the kids are so excited to make a competition out of this month’s activity with a CASTLE CUP CHALLENGE! Each grade level will be divided up into small groups and will have the opportunity to work with their classmates to design and create the best structure they can imagine.

In order to make this celebration possible, we are asking for donations of        16 ounce plastic cups (typical red Solo cups). The more cups we have, the more the kids will get to use in their creation.

If you are able to donate, please send the cups in with your student no later than Monday, February 26th.

Thank you so much for your continued support – it truly is appreciated!

Ocean Floor Ideas

The students will be creating a model of the ocean floor with a partner. Here are some examples so they can get some ideas about what to bring in for their model. We will start working on them tomorrow in science.

5th Grade Ocean Floor. Made with styrofoam, sculpey, & poster board.

Ocean Floor Diorama Carved from extra styrofoam out of a package. Dimensions aren't exactly correct, but the styrofoam was already cut a certain way, so we did the best we could! Painted with regular crayola paint, and shoved into a shoebox! Labels are just made from paper taped to toothpicks.

Your model must be accurately and neatly labeled.

5th grade Science - Ocean Floor Model - Livi used small box, added background and then added food coloring to brown sugar and built up the Ocean Floor layers. She then labeled each layer with toothpicks and its label

However, the event can only be a success with your help. We are in need of volunteers to help run stations at the carnival. If you are able to volunteer your time, it would also be appreciated. The time slots are as follows:

A.M. session – 8:35-11:15                          P.M. session – 12:50-3:25

We need (7)  A.M. volunteers and (7) P.M. volunteers. If you are able to volunteer, please e-mail

Ms. Otto at ottoc@dearbornschools.org to sign-up 🙂

Thank you for all of your help and continued support!
