DTE Energy

Student video of using energy to create electricity.

 

Today we had 2 instructors from the DTE energy program talk to the 4th grade classes. This presentation goes along great with our science energy goals.

The students brought home their energy forms that need to be completed in the next week. It can be done online or on the worksheet. If you do it online you must send in the code number they give you at the end of the survey.

If we return our surveys our class will be able to get a $100 grant to use towards our next field trip, which can cut our bus fees in half or lower each students’ costs by $4. It is a simple way for us to participate and be rewarded. Thank you in advance for your help.

Weekly Homework

As I check the weekly homework I am seeing a few concerns. Several of the students are not following the directions that are given for each section or only doing a part of the assignment. Since this work does not deal with any new learning, I use it for a writing grade to see if they can produce clear writing  for a specific purpose.

I have attached some pictures to show a few good examples for this assignment.

Science Test on Friday, October 12

The students have worksheets, charts and lists in their science notebook. They were told to take home their notebooks and start studying. The areas to be tested are:

Resources for energy

– renewable resources

– non renewable resources

Fossil fuels

Forms of Energy –

Mechanical

Electrical

Light

Thermal

Sound

Convert –energy can be changed from one form of energy to another form

       Example- Electrical energy can be converted to thermal energy.  example- toaster

4th grade Team Shirts

Parents,

An order form will come home with your child today in regards to purchasing this “Haigh 4th Grade Rocks” shirt.  The 4th grade team thought it would be nice to have matching shirts for field trips and big events at school.  If you are interested in purchasing one for your child or yourself, please send the order form and money back in by October 29th.
