Canned Food Drive Competition

Hype will be our organization that is running the Canned Food Drive this year. Hype will be distributing Thanksgiving meals for families that are struggling, will go out and feed homeless veterans, individuals at a Detroit homeless shelter and refugees.  Each meal will consist of a turkey, canned corn, boxed mashed/scalloped potatoes, cranberry sauce, canned green beans/vegetables, Jiff cornbread/cake mix and canned fruit.

Our class made a goal of 290 cans to be turned in by November 15th! If each student brings in 10 canned goods (including me), then we will make our goal. The prize for meeting our goal will be a pizza party on November 26th.

Students can collect these canned food items by going house to house asking for donations or asking family members and friends.

Due to the Weather

Evening Haigh Community,

Each year the Halloween Parade is one of my favorite events at our building. It is soo much fun to see our students and staff dressed up in their costumes! We also enjoy the large crowd that comes to this event to support our students and the smiles that we see on everyone’s face.

Unfortunately, this year we will have to move the parade inside due to the expected cold temperatures and large amounts of rain. I tried to wait as long as possible to see if the weather was going to change for tomorrow, but it is not looking good. The parade tomorrow will also need to be for students and staff only. Due to our large population at the building, we will not be able to fit families, students, and staff into the hallways at Haigh. Safety is always on my mind and I want to make sure that we are keeping all students and families safe. I also chose to move the parade inside to keep everyone’s costumes in good shape for the evening “trick or treating” and to help keep our students from getting sick. Over the last few weeks we have had “Bingo for Books-Halloween Edition”, the “Halloween Dance”, Donuts and Cider, and class parties all to celebrate the holiday. Although we will not have the outdoor parade tomorrow, I believe our students and staff have had a great time celebrating this holiday. Throughout the year we will continue to have events at our building where our families will be able to come in and join us at the building. Another favorite, “Family Game Night” is coming up at the beginning of December in our Gym and cafeteria. This event is put on by “Learning Gizmo’s” and has been a huge hit in the past! Overall, we hope that everyone has a great evening tomorrow “trick or treating” and that the rain will come to an end soon. Thank you so much for your time,

Sincerely,

Mr. Short
