**Spring Math NWEA Friday (tomorrow)!  If needed, we will finish on Monday…

•Geometry Unit: Last week students reviewed the formulas for area and perimeter of rectangles, squares, and parallelograms. Then we used the formulas to find a missing side length, given the area (or perimeter) and one side.  This week we have been studying angle relationships: complementary angles (the sum of two angles = 90°), supplementary angles (the sum of two angles = 180°), and vertical angles (opposite angles are congruent).

•SLOT(Bellwork): Solving and graphing Inequalities (< > ≤ ≥)

HOMEWORK:
Finish complementary/supplementary angles practice (p.2 of handout)

Important Dates:
Friday, May 6 – Math NWEA testing
Wednesday, May 11 – Late Start
Friday, May 13 – PTA Fun Day
Friday, May 27 – NO SCHOOL
Monday, May 30 – NO SCHOOL
Thursday, June 16 – Last Day of School

**District Common Assessment on Friday!
(7.EE.A.1, 7.EE.A.2, 7.EE.B.3, 7.RP.A.3)

•Ratios and Proportions Unit: Students have been using the percent proportion to solve problems involving markup, discount, sales tax, commission, and total selling price. We created a mini-book for our math notebooks with examples of each, as well as taken notes on related vocabulary. I showed the classes two methods for solving the problems (method 1: find the amount of markup (or discount), then add to (subtract from) the original amount; method 2: find the total percent you will be paying….ex. 100% + 6% = 106% -amount I will pay, then solve.)

•SLOT(Bellwork): We have been practicing multi-step equations (ones that include the distributive property and combining like terms).

HOMEWORK:
Review Study Guide and math notebook to prepare for Friday’s test.

Important Dates:
Friday, March 11 – Marking Period 4 Ends
Tuesday, March 15 – Parent-Teacher Conferences
Wednesday, March 16 – Late Start
Friday, March 25 – Sunday, April 3  Spring Break (Return Monday, April 4)

Tuesday 1/19/16

**Winter NWEA Math testing will be this Thursday and Friday!

•Expressions/Equations Unit: Students learned the GUESS method last week to help them with solving word problems. G- Given, U- Unknown, E- Equation, S- Solve, S- Sentence. They made a flow chart for their math notebook to remind them of the steps and what to be thinking about and have been practicing using it the last few days.
•SLOT(Bellwork): We have been practicing two- step equations since the return from winter break.

HOMEWORK:
Hours 0,2,4,5 – ws #35 Solving Equations using GUESS (4 squares)

Hour 6 – ws #34 Solving Two-Step Equations using GUESS (flowchart)

Important Dates:
Wednesday, Jan. 20 – Late Start
Friday, Jan.. 29 – 1/2 Day AM (Marking Period 3/Semester 1 ends)

Monday, Feb. 1 – 1/2 Day AM (Marking Period 4/Semester 2 begins)

Friday, Feb. 12- Monday, Feb. 15  Mid-Winter Break

Tuesday 11/17/15

•Number Systems Unit: Students were given a study guide last Friday in order to start preparing for the district common assessment for the unit (on THURSDAY 11/19). They were asked to try as many problems on their own as possible, however, we began reviewing each problem one at a time yesterday. The last few problems need to be attempted tonight, if not already completed, as we will finish going over the rest of the study guide and any final questions tomorrow.

•SLOT(Bellwork): We have put a “pause” on one- step equations. Instead, we are reviewing multiplying/dividing fractions and adding/subtracting fractions as part of preparing for the district assessment.

HOMEWORK:
Use the study guide to prepare for the District Common Assessment!

Important Dates:
Wednesday, Nov. 18 – Late Start
Wed. Nov. 25- Sun. Nov. 29 – Thanksgiving break

Wednesday 11/11/15

•Number Systems Unit: Multiplying and dividing positive and negative fractions and mixed numbers. Students made a foldable for their math notebook and have been using it as they work.

•SLOT(Bellwork): One-step addition and subtraction equations with decimals.

Some students are solving the SLOT practice correctly on a consistent basis, but many continue to have mistakes because mastery involves remembering the rules for equations, plus adding/subtracting decimals, PLUS integer rules for adding and subtracting. We will continue to work on this daily, however, I am available most days before or after school (except Mondays) for additional help. I prefer students try to let me know in advance in case I have a scheduled meeting or conflict.

HOMEWORK:

Hours 0,4,5: worksheet #20

Hours 2,6: worksheet #19

Important Dates:

Wednesday, Nov. 18 – Late Start

Wed. Nov. 25- Sun. Nov. 29 – Thanksgiving break

Friday, 10/30/15

Students worked on a study guide for 7.NS.A.2- multiplying/dividing integers and decimals; converting fractions to decimals using long division. Students can also use worksheets 11-15 for additional review. We will start class on Monday reviewing the answers to the study guide and answering any additional questions students have. (Hour 0 did not have class time to work on the study guide, as we were catching up from missed class time on Monday due to the Pink Shirt Day assembly, but received it to complete for homework.)

Additionally, we are continuing to practice one-step equations with integers and decimals. (This is NOT on Monday’s quiz!)

HOMEWORK:

Complete and review the study guide for 7.NS.A.2 if not completed in class to prepare for Monday’s quiz.

Important Dates:
Tuesday, Nov. 3 – NO SCHOOL (Election Day)

Wednesday, Nov. 18 – Late Start

Wed. Nov. 25- Sun. Nov. 29 – Thanksgiving break

Wednesday 10/28/15

Thank you to all the parents and families that were able to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences on either Monday or Wednesday. It was a pleasure meeting with everyone! If you were unable to attend conferences, but have questions/concerns about your child’s math grade, performance, or NWEA level, please email me so we can set up a time to meet.

Students are continuing to practice adding and subtracting decimals with signs. Some are still finding it difficult to remember the correct integer rules to apply. We also started solving one-step equations with integers and decimals. They should be “checking” and graphing each solution, as well.

HOMEWORK:

Complete the four addition equations on the handout for our notebooks.

Important Dates:
Tuesday, Nov. 3 – NO SCHOOL (Election Day)

Wednesday, Nov. 18 – Late Start

Wed. Nov. 25- Sun. Nov. 29 – Thanksgiving break

Friday 10/23/15

We’ve been reviewing how to change fractions to decimals using long division this week, as well as reviewing all operations for decimals.

HOMEWORK:

Hours 0,2,4,5– ws #15 (#1-6 for each decimal operation)

Hour 6- ws#15 (#1-3 for each)

Important Dates:

Parent-Teacher Conferences – Monday, Oct. 26 (4-7pm) AND Wednesday, Oct. 28 (3:30-6:30pm)
