HOMEWORK: ws #10 Adding/Subtracting Integers “quilt” page

Wednesday 10/7/15

Last week

  • Students completed practice with integers, additive inverses (opposites), and absolute value, as well as completed vocabulary maps for these terms for their math notebooks.
  • Students began adding integers and created a foldable to remember the rules for adding integers with the same sign or different signs.

This week

  • We have continued to practice adding integers, and we are using the rule “Keep-Change-Change” to rewrite a subtraction problem into an equivalent addition one in order to use the addition rules for integers. Students added this information and examples to their integer rules foldable.
  • Integer Top It game

Friday 9/11/15

Over the past few days students have been getting to know the classroom procedures and expectations, as well as getting to know each other. We began the week by discussing traits of a good student/classmate.

On Wednesday we used the Chromebooks to review how to log in to Khan Academy, which included signing up students that are new to using Khan Academy. At Open House I will briefly discuss our use of Khan Academy this year to support their learning in math.

Yesterday, the class syllabus (brochure) and suggested supplies were discussed and students learned how to play the math game Muggins.

Ask your student about the team building activity that he/she worked through in class today that involved stacking cups using only string and a rubber band. They were pretty creative!

On Monday we will begin NWEA math testing and we’ll use Tuesday to finish testing as needed.
