Happenings for February 26th – March 2nd

8th Grade:

This week students are working on their career brochures. Students should refer to the previous iblog entry to find the brochure template. The next unit will be on learning how to use the Google sketchup program which will be used in a later assignment. Take a look at the example of the brochure below:

 

7th Grade:

We begin this week with construction of our egg crash vehicles. Students were asked to gather some recyclable materials to build their vehicle during vacation. We do have some material in the technology lab for students to use. We will be building this week and next week and plan to test our vehicles with raw eggs next Friday. Packet for this activity can be found below:

6th Grade:

Students will be completing their unit on measuring this week and turning in their measuring packet in by Friday. Students should remember that the packet and assignments done with the packet for this unit are all worth formative points. Our project this week will be to make a ruler. Students who chose to to the extra credit with this packet must have it completed by this Friday as well. Packets can be dropped off before 1st hour, after 7th hour and during our class time.

Career activity for 8th grade

Today we begin the Careers unit in class. We will start the unit with some videos on careers in technology. You will be given a packet for this unit and below are the links you need for the career choices as well as the template to create the brochure and one for the activity sheet.

Happenings for February 12th – 16th

8th Grade: 

This week we are rapping up our unit on measuring with watching our classmates power points in class. We will do this on Monday and Wednesday and on Tuesday and Thursday students who are eligible will be WIDA testing during our class time.

Students need to turn in their measuring unit packet by Friday. don’t forget that their is extra credit available in the packet, check it out!

Friday begins our unit on careers in Technology and we will use Friday to take a look and get some information about various careers focused on technology.

7th Grade:

This week we will finish up our unit on measuring with a completion of our summative projects and turning in our completed packets which also include some extra credit to consider working on.

Next we will begin our unit on automobile safety and discuss our next project which is called “Egg Crash vehicles”

6th Grade:

We should be wrapping up our unit on measuring skills after vacation. This week we practice our measuring skills individually and as a group. We will also play computer games related to measuring skills this week.

Happenings for February 5th – 9th

8th grade:

This weeks focus is reviewing measuring skills. Measuring is a skill used in not only construction but also in the home. Consider how measuring is used at home. Can you think of reasons why you would need to be able to measure in inches, feet and yards in your home?

7th grade:

As with 8th grade, our 7th grade classes will also review measuring skills this week. Consider how measuring is used in various careers such as the medical field and in business.

6th grade:

6th grade will be working on measuring skills this week and next week and will complete their measuring skills with creating a ruler to use. Take a look at the fractions found between an inch.

7th and 8th grade:
This week we have a new semester and new classes in technology. Welcome to all of our new students! Below is a link to our classroom procedures:
7th and 8th grade Computer lab procedure activity (Wednesday January 31st)
A part of learning about technology involves the use of computers in class. We not only need to respect our school computers but remember that what we do on the computer must also be safe.

Kids’ Rules for Online Safety

Your assignment:

  1. Read the above article and then type one paragraph on google docs explaining why internet safety is important to follow.  Include things you may have seen about internet predators on the news or have read about online.
  2. Type a second paragraph about what you can do if you witness a friend, sibling or relative break one of these internet rules. Explain how you would feel and maybe how the other person would feel about you getting involved in their business.
  3. Locate an advertisement or poster which displays how kids can be safe using the internet:

4. Share your document with me by the end of the hour (5 points)

Extra credit: have a parent subscribe and send me a message, could be a question or a comment or a picture. (5 points)

 

6th grade:

Happenings for January 22nd-26th

8th Grade:

Students in this class are completing their trays this week. They look fantastic! All assignments are due by Wednesday, clean up is on Thursday and then a half-day on Friday. Notebooks are due on Tuesday!

7th Grade:

This is our final week to complete the house models! Models and unit sheets are due on Wednesday! Notebooks are due on Wednesday!

6th Grade:

Students are completing their floor plan activity on Thursday.

A day students turn in their notebooks on Wednesday!

B day students turn in their notebooks on Tuesday!

Happenings for January 15th-19th

  • no school on Monday! MLK day!
  • Wednesday is a late start!

8th Grade: Students will continue to work on their tray projects. Students are learning about sanding with the grain of the wood, how to apply stain and attach handles this week. Our goal is to complete our trays by Friday, including turning in all paperwork associated with this unit. Next week, our final week, is set aside to complete any finishing touches on the trays, clean up the technology lab and discussing what we accomplished this semester in Applications of Technology.

7th Grade: Students are continuing to work on their architecture unit this week. Most are finished drawing out their house onto paper using the scale 1/4″ = 1′. Some students are now measuring and cutting out their walls to begin their house model.

6th Grade: Students have finished their board game activities and are now working on their final unit, floor plans. This week students will learn how to use the program; smallbluprinter.com

Happenings for January 8th-12th

I hope everyone had a restful break! Sorry I forgot to do this past weeks blog. We continued to work on units we began before break so no new assignments. 6th grade class is the only one to make a change from the board game unit to our final unit, floor plans.

Happenings for Dec 18th – 22nd

8th Grade:

This week we are building our sanding blocks and then beginning construction on our serving trays. Students may bring in handles to add to their trays if they do not want to use ropes as handles.

7th Grade:

Students. this week, are designing floor plans using smallblueprinter.com. They should complete their plans by Wednesday and then will be drawing their plans out on large sheets of paper using the scale 1/4″ = 1′

6th Grade:

This is the final week for the board game construction. All groups must be finished by Friday so that when we come back from break we will be ready to test out the games!

Happenings for December 11-15

8th grade:

The students are excited this week because we are going to start using the tools and machines we were talking about last week. The safety test is on Wednesday so study hard!

7th Grade:

We finish up on Monday with our unit on fonts which include a poster displaying our unique alphabets as well as a greeting card which uses the fonts we created. Tuesday begins our new unit on architecture which is also our last unit. Students will learn how to create a floor plan on the computer, then scale their drawing to fit on paper and then make a model of their house.

6th Grade:

We continue this week and next with our game board project. Both classes are doing an outstanding job organizing what each person will do within the group! We have some awesome themes from History to Sports!
