Groups continued to work on their print ad projects today. I would think that we wrap those up on Monday and then move to presentations. I also collected journals from the week.

6th Grade – 3rd Hour ONLY

In class today students finished their plot diagrams with their partners and then we discussed them as a full class. I also collected the journals from the week.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is a half a day. We will be running hours 1, 2, and 3. There will be NO electives and Monday will be an “A” day.

Journal:  Ad – – Explain an ad that you have seen that is an excellent example of Ethos.

Groups continued to work on their ad projects. The struggle today was creating a slogan that not only was catch/memorable, but also tied their visual to the slogan.

8th Grade

JOURNAL:  Story Dice – – Come in, have a seat, take your journal paper out, and wait for me to roll the dice for today’s journal.

Students worked with their ad teams to to a final critical critique of their 3 proposed ads. In particular, they looked at whether their ads spoke to the target audience and to that audiences wants, needs, and emotions.

HOMEWORK: IXLs are due FRIDAY.

6th Grade

3rd Hour: JOURNAL:  Miserable – – Explain what makes you miserable.

We worked together as a class to create a plot diagram using “The Two Brothers” as our example.

6th Hour: JOURNAL:  Problem– – Explain the three problems that happen because death is stuck in the tree.

Students worked with their partner to create a plot diagram for “Aunt Misery”.

HOMEWORK: No homework for both classes. UNLESS, you are missing any of your 4 IXLs (A.1, B.1, B.2, and F.1). Remember to email me when you have completed them!

NWEA testing tomorrow – Language. This is the last day of testing!

8th Grade

JOURNAL:  Logos – – Using the strategy of LOGOS, convince your parents you should be allowed to start driver’s ed as an 8th grader (pretend this is possible).

Today students worked with their groups the “finalize” the rough drafts of their Pathos and Logos ad ideas and they then started working on their Ethos idea.

HOMEWORK: Summer IXLs are due Friday. I called students who were missing any IXLs up to my desk to remind them.

6th Grade

3rd hour ONLY

JOURNAL:  Your Choice – – Write about whatever you would like for 5 minutes and at least half a page.

Today we discussed the “Two Brothers” and took notes on the plot diagram in our notebooks.

6th hour ONLY

JOURNAL:  Miserable – – Explain what makes you miserable.

Today in class we used the story “The Two Brothers” and dissected it into the individual parts of the plot diagram. We will practice this more and students will be expected to do this with a short story given to them un a quiz in the next few weeks.

HOMEWORK (3rd and 6th hours): I checked in the 4 IXLs that were due today (A.1, B.1, B.2, and F.1). Many students need to complete these. When a student has finished one of these IXLs, they need to email that they have finished it and include the letter and number of the one they have completed.

JOURNAL:  Pathos – – Using the strategy of PATHOS, convince your parents you should be allowed to start driver’s ed as an 8th grader (pretend this is possible).

Today in class students worked on creating a mock-up of their pathos and logos print ads for their products. They also, received critical feedback for their mock-ups in order to make possible adjustments.

HOMEWORK: NWEA testing will continue Tuesday with the language section.

6th Grade

JOURNAL:  Weekend – – Explain what your PERFECT weekend is.

In 3rd hour today we finished presenting our Summer Postcards.

In 6th hour we finished our discussion of “The Two Brothers” and then took notes in our interactive notebooks about the plot diagram.

HOMEWORK: BOTH classes have IXLs A.1, B.1, B.2, and F.1 due Monday. The links are in Google Classroom.

Today we finished postcard presentations and then were introduced to our first project: The Ad Campaign.

3rd Hour presented their postcards. We will finish these tomorrow.
